This is one of the worst violations of research ethics I've ever seen. Manipulating people in online communities using deception, without consent, is not "low risk" and, as evidenced by the discourse in this Reddit post, resulted in harm.

The state of AI hype today: completely ignoring the real damages AI is causing, (which in turn creates a need for regulation)… and then oversimplifying the issue to make it seem like the “best” option is to leave techbros alone so they can techbro all they want.

How long until I can retire? Too many Instructional Designers in our field accepting AI hype too uncritically. “Spot the problem with the AI output” is not a good pedagogical idea for most subjects. Unless you are literally teaching people to refine AI output.
