Inspired by Day of the Triffids, Silent Night by @emmaread.bsky.social reminds me a little of ‘The Last of Us, but for kids aged 11+. A cracking read which will have children on the edge of their seats.

Really enjoyed this debut poetry collection by Julie Hare @tortoise1hare2.bsky.social. Loved the environmental theme running through the book. My class have already dipped into it several times for Poem of the Day. @redgierob.bsky.social

I believe this is why we should encourage our children to write as often as possible. They may not be inspired every day, but as this quote attributed to Picasso implies, when inspiration strikes, they need to be writing in order to capture it.

Right we’ve all had a couple of weeks…
What is your favourite book of the summer so far?
I’ve very much enjoyed ‘Shadow Thieves’ by Peter Burton.
A great Y5/6 text and for fans of Wild Boy, Ned’s Circus of Marvels, The Nowhere Emporium or Rooftoppers.

By incorporating film and animation into the curriculum, educators can stimulate discussion and inspire written expression.
As educators, it is crucial to respect and integrate this aspect of their home literacy rather than perpetuating a dichotomy that positions screens as inferior to books.

Many children enter school with a foundation in visual literacy, having been exposed to and engaged with film and animation from an early age.
In educational settings, we can build upon this existing knowledge as a foundation for further literacy development.

It would also be fun to ask the children to write their own stories based on the dictionary in a similar way to this one.
