Die AfD ist nur unwesentlich stärker als bei Landtagswahlen 2016 - da war sie ebenfalls drittstärkste Partei.

Der Vergleich zu 2021 überschätzt massiv den angeblichen Wahlerfolg heute. Abstände zu Grüne & CDU nahezu gleich groß wie 2016.

ARD & ZDF wollen aber lieber die andere Story. 🤷‍♂️

🛤️ We also identify 3 key avenues for further research: 1) better #operationalisation of "mainstream" and "normal", 2) stronger theoretical #distinctions between mainstream actors, and 3) more research beyond #immigration and national-level dynamics.

📝 We therefore develop a framework that differentiates these processes more clearly, focusing on actors, triggers/drivers, processes, consequences, and context.

📚 While scholarship on the mainstreaming and normalisation of the far right has grown rapidly in recent years, the terms are often used interchangeably. Reviewing around 400 studies, we found considerable conceptual blurriness. 😶‍🌫️

Lower Saxony: AfD state chapter designated extremist group The state intelligence agency for Lower Saxony has upgraded the state chapter of Alternative for Germany (AfD) party to a "surveillance object of considerable import." This gives investigators more monitoring options.

Another #AfD state party chapter has been classified as right-wing extremist (the first in the western states afaik). Following the usual pattern, the party will sue, lose, appeal to the higher courts, lose again, give countless interviews, all while complaining that 🇩🇪 is a dictatorship
