It also connects with what Gessen says about idea that there is something inherently wrong with people who do not have children. For infertile people it can be cured through purchasing a child/infant. For evangelicals, their cultural standing is elevated by having biology and adopted children.

Another connection: while adoption is used as a tool of discrimination against LGBTQI+ communities, as Gessen says, in settler colonial cultures infant/child family separation is always used as a tool for moving children from Indigenous/poor families to white/richer (mostly evangelical) families.
