So the basic proposal, if I’m following correctly, is to wrench the whole American consumer economy back to Gilded Age protectionism by means of Executive fiat, right now, tonight, while Congress tries to relieve the tax burden on some rich people but everyone else goes on paying income taxes too.
Asked my smart economist friend about how #TrumpTariffs help Americans or even the rich, because I couldn't see it, and he said, "It doesn't. He's destroying stuff. It doesn't benefit anyone...except our enemies."
If we were conquered and under hostile occupation, what would the government do differently? Would an occupation government that wanted to crush the United States as a vibrant, prosperous country with influence around the world do anything differently?
