Hmm. Both of my grandmothers worked. Great-grandmothers, let's see. One didn't work outside the home because she had 13 children. One I'm not sure. And two I'm 100% sure they didn't work outside the home because they died young (from vaccine preventable diseases). The past was not great.

Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony
Monday, April 13, 7-8:30 pm
Higgins Middle School, 85 Perkins Street
Peabody, Massachusetts 01960
Please join the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Salem State University (CHGS) for its annual Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony. This year's program will feature a memorial service and prayers, the Salem State University Community Chorus and a conversation with Karen Kirsten, an Australian-American author and Holocaust educator. She is the author of rena's Gift, a 2025 National Jewish Book Award finalist and winner of two Zibby Awards.
Karen Kirsten grew up among refugees who didn't talk about the past. Determined to understand the generational trauma that cloaked her family in silence, and to help heal her mother's pain, Karen meticulously reconstructed an extraordinary saga. After several research trips to Poland, Karen reunited her mother with the heroes who had hidden her as a child and then facilitated awarding them Righteous Among the Nations medals.
This ceremony is supported by the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston.
The ceremony is free and open to the public.

The America That Could Be
The main point of Adam Bonicaβs post The Wall Looks Permanent Until It Falls is about the optimism of this moment: that the US could be ripe for a Berlin Wall-falling moment that opens the door for a better future. Iβm n
Great data analysis of what would US would be like if it were just an average country in its cohort of wealthy democracies, e.g. βthe nation that would exist if our democracy functioned to serve the public rather than protect the already powerfulβ. [kottke.org]
