It's the weird WW1-style _battles_ in a space age setting that don't make sense. Money is always the reason for wars.
Photo of the tarmac surface of Royal Parade in Narrm Melbourne. Painted in big white letters across the vehicle lane is the admonition: STOP FOR RAMS. Tram rails are visible in the next lane. Photo by me.
Stop for rams ๐

How on earth is "from the river, to the sea, (coastal radio 2RE)" antisemitic?
(My brain immediately ends that phrase with "Coastal radio 2RE" by the way, as I am from the mid north coast, NSW, & all the school bus drivers always listened to 2RE & that ad was on every 10 minutes back in the 90s.)
It's great they are being cautious (I dread to think what would happen if it were to fall with cars on it, & those supersized trailer trucks they swear aren't road trains zoom along that & every highway can't be helping) but there really aren't any viable alternatives for a hell of a lot of people.
Huh.
I had thought the shoe thing was a weird joke someone had told that I hadn't understood. Big "not the onion" moment?
Rich people gotta scam and tax avoid, basically.
A calico cat lying curled up asleep, with her jaw pillowed on her left hind leg.
Sleeping Thessa.
Oh dear. The Great Western Highway has a break in it. The alternatives are really unfortunate, and Easter is almost here. (That's when this essential highway usually turns into a parking lot for a few days). This looks like a bad one, folks.
Good point well argued.
It seems more a map that explains what yanks think these words and phrases mean from their viewpoints. Or something.
Absolutely. Have once had special permission to collect lichen from 100yrold stones for a lichen study I was participating in. Not only did I have to complete a special training course to collect it safely, but I needed that special permission!
What they're doing is bloody well desecrating graves!
This link fails. Does it mention health benefits, or just shortages?
Well, haven't you been a busy beaver?
It annoys me that no one has a clue what grok means any more. It's been stolen from us.

Black and white freefall comic. A graffiti wall, with Florence the Wolf Engineer. Quote#1: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from Magic", Arthur C Clarke Quote#2: "Any technology indistinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced" Barry Gehm Quote #3: "Any technology, no matter how advanced, is magic to thise who don't understand it" Florence Ambrose.
Florence has an interpretation on this phenomenon in Freefall.

Writing from New, South, Wales (that's a long story) and from the other other Newcastle, the one with the coal, no wait they all have that..... Yeah. Yep. People need to be more inventive.
We are doing our best to rename a lot of Oz with the original names, which is nice. Awabakal country. Lovely.
It is also, incredibly, entirely unlike Wales, and also unlike South Wales (I have been to the two "originals"). The hopping deer might be a clue...
It's not a crime to not know history. Wikiwalks are your friend though.

The Yorkshire accent is extremely distinctive, btw, a very interesting accent. You have probably heard it in British comedies on TV and radio.
It can't be that much of a stretch to know Old York is in England? (They just call it York though, no need to distinguish).
I keep meeting yanks who think that AC/DC are an American band, incidentally. Which is odd.
There are rumours of $4 a litre in the NT, and WA has a few places where they are only selling to emergency services, but NSW cities seem to be stopping at $2.20 a litre for now at least. That said, no one is allowed to fill a can, just their car. Which is telling.
Gomez was kind, had empathy, suffered no liars, was truthful himself, played with his kids, understood the concept of consent and practiced its ideals daily, had good manners and taught those to his kids too, and he was generous.
Can't right now think of anyone less like Trump.
Wow yuck, that water looks more chlorinated than a pool in a drought after school sports day.
The bodyguards preventing the complete lack of anyone watching it from approaching the screen is an interesting touch.
Saw an exhibition where local artists were told to paint an homage to an artist who had inspired them. Dutiful William Robinson, Monet, Mondrian & Picasso lookalikes. Then came the "yeah he is trying to rip off Dali & failing" comments. Artists have no obligation to compare themselves to anyone.
I remember being mystified as a kid as to how town water didn't have pump sounds when I had a shower. I knew water had to go through the pump, I just figured the traffic noise muffled the pump noise. I grew up rural.
Was only later I found out how extensive pressurised town water supply was.
If you weirdly got no upvotes when people with similar sentiments got plenty, this may well be why. I'm Aussie, my cuss words and idiom aren't the same as those of yanks, so I tend to click the covered entry at the bottom to see what it says. Often booby trapped, sometimes informative.
Some of the police who brutally attacked the people praying at the free palestine peaceful protest in Sydney were wearing Israeli pins also. Which should have made their attack a hate crime. No one seems to care who is wearing these pins.
I figured that shirt was either a reference to media I don't know, or slang from America that I don't know, so I shrugged and moved on. It's a nice piece of art, the phrase means nothing to me. I hope it sells well.
