Wildlife to replace historical characters on Bank of England banknotes Nature was the most popular theme among the public, with the new notes designed to deter counterfeiting.

Fully support wildlife featuring on our banknotes, but it’s sad to see that plants will, once again, be treated merely as a pretty floral background to ‘animals & birds’. Why not feature Bluebell (the nations’ favourite wildflower) or iconic Lady’s-slipper Orchid? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Quaker Meeting House suffers second Met Police raid For the second time in less than a year, Metropolitan Police officers have raided Westminster Quaker Meeting House, arresting young activists.

"The Met Police may want to intimidate us into contributing to the govt's closing off of the right to protest... We will continue to hire space to explicitly nonviolent groups, with appropriate checks in place, just as we always have." – Clerk of Westminster Quakers www.quaker.org.uk/news-and-eve...

7/ Netpol applauds the Quakers for ensuring there is space to train people to take nonviolent direct action, despite the previous police raid of their place of worship.

We hope they continue to do so despite this police repression.

Read these words from 100 years ago about immigrants in Britain – and see how history is chillingly repeating itself | George Monbiot Shabana Mahmood’s new rights clampdown looks outlandish until we remember that this kind of hardline action is part of our country’s fabric, says George Monbiot

The precedent is eerily, chillingly precise. What the current Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is doing to immigrants and refugees today is almost a carbon copy of what Sir William Joynson-Hicks was doing 100 years ago. And that's not a good thing. My column.

Nature, Peace and Security: Too important to leave to governments As governments turn their attention to the intersections between nature, peace and security, civil society needs to speak up if we’re to avoid the dead-end securitisation of the climate crisis; to …

How helpful is it to let spooks and national security actors define the climate and ecological crisis?

Imagine the response of the Western media and politicians.

And note the lack of outrage and disgust here.

What a great day for Vladimir Putin! I can picture him in the Kremlin, watching the EU & the UK play dumb while Trump trashes Int. Law, their media reporting Maduro's abduction as an 'arrest'. I bet he's thinking: Should I also detain Zelensky and subject him to Russian justice?

It’s not about drugs. If it was, Trump wouldn’t have pardoned one of the largest narco traffickers in the world last month.

It’s about oil and regime change.

And they need a trial now to pretend that it isn’t. Especially to distract from his sinking under Epstein and skyrocketing healthcare costs.

Fiduciary duty may sound technical, but it matters hugely.

Pension schemes should not be forced to invest in fossil fuels, arms or tobacco when those investments harm health, the planet and pensioners’ long-term interests.
