U.S., protest technically exists but it comes with an asterisk: “as long as you can afford to lose your job and your healthcare.” Dissent isn’t illegal, it’s just economically dangerous. That’s not freedom being banned outright, it’s freedom being quietly priced out of reach.

They have been - but to be effective, protests must last days and include refusal to work/purchase, which is what happens in France and other countries.

But remember that being absent from work is risk in "at will" states. And US healthcare is tied to employment.
