I’m the Canadian who was detained by Ice for two weeks. It felt like I had been kidnapped I was stuck in a freezing cell without explanation despite eventually having lawyers and media attention. Yet, compared with others, I was lucky

"The reality became clear: Ice detention isn’t just a bureaucratic nightmare. It’s a business. These facilities are privately owned and run for profit." www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

New claimants of Universal Credit’s health element from 2026 will receive ~Β£48 a week less UC in total than under current system - a huge halving of support (comprising ~Β£51 cut to UC LCWRA element, offset by only ~Β£3 rise in UC standard allowance) 2/11

JRF Chief Executive Paul Kissack said:

"No truly moral choice would leave disabled people without the very support that is designed to allow them to lead a dignified life, nor would it leave them facing hardship. These would be unprecedented disability benefits cuts.

β€œIdeas like the Right to Try Guarantee help to remove the barriers that prevent people from working but enormous cuts mean the Government risks undermining these positives. Making it harder for people to qualify for support, or cutting their support, puts more pressure on people who are already struggling to cope.

"Ministers should boost the basic rate of Universal Credit without taking the extra support from the pockets of disabled people receiving UC health. It should be funded by those with the broadest shoulders.

"A government that came to office pledging to end the moral scar of food bank use clearly should not be taking steps that could leave disabled people at greater risk of needing to use one."

Big picture today is Government chose to cut unprecedented Β£5bn of income from disabled people at highest risk of hardship. This drive for cost savings undermines any positive changes contained in the disability benefits green paper.

The British public have clearly got a sense that *someone* undeserving has taken all the money, which is true, a class of people have, but it's truly a sign of painfully evil the British spirit is that so many are convinced it's the disabled and people on benefits who have made off with it.

All Labour MPs have reportedly been called in to Downing Street for talks with Starmer about the expected disability benefits cuts.

If you have a Labour MP, this is the time to email them. Tell them your objections. Tell them your experience.

J.K. Rowling | GLAAD 12.28.2024β€”Made the false and baseless claim that transgender youth do not exist. In a post on X she writes, "There are no trans kids. No child is 'born in the wrong body'. There are only adults like ...

It’s a stock social media retort from Anon Gender Criticals to say β€œShow me just one thing (there are literally thousands) that JK Rowling has done or said that’s transphobic.” This is a great list, compiled by GLAAD glaad.org/gap/jk-rowli...

"disability benefits have the lowest rate of fraud, with DWP’s own figures showing that fraud by claimants of personal independence payment fell from 0.2 per cent in 2022-23 to 0.0 per cent in 2023-24, while fraud by disability living allowance claimants was estimated to be just 0.1 per cent"
