While working from the same premise as du Maurier's original tale, Hitchcock used the film to tell a markedly different story.
The film, which starred Minnesota native Tippi Hedren (no relation to TheatreX Artistic Director Joe Hendren - note the additional 'n'), was met with mixed reactions from critics upon its release - though it has gone on to be widely regarded as one of the greatest thrillers in cinema history.
