I agree.
I watched At Issue last night and I couldn’t understand why the panel was essentially gushing over it. It was ridiculous. Especially Althia Raj. Great speech? Like did we listen to the same thing? And I’m tired of panels saying he sounds statesman-like whenever he does the bare minimum.

Just read a CBC article that said he’s meeting Xi on Friday.
β€œPresident Xi Jinping will have an in-depth discussion with Carney on Friday. He said China is ready to move forward on their strategic partnership.”

Thanks for replying and attaching a link, much appreciated. I would take this with a grain of salt, the Daily Express is a tabloid and not exactly known for journalistic integrity🌸

I can’t find a legitimate news source reporting on this. The quote this points to looks like an X post quoting a WSJ article but I’m unable to find that article. Do you have any further links?

Exactly. I’m a lefty ABC voter but it’s ridiculous to assume he may not win the by-election & still be leader. He’s going to win the seat & be back in the HOC in a few months. It would cost taxpayers to move him in/out. Also there’s precedent for letting them stay. It’s not a fight worth having.

I agree with you @rachelgilmore.bsky.social I’m appalled by some of these responses. I loathe PP but he’s going to be re-elected in a short time & move back in anyway. There’s precedence for letting him stay in the meantime from what I’ve read. I get we all wish he wouldn’t come back but he will :-(

The riding he’s been handed to run in voted 82% for the Cons. It’s mathematically impossible for him to lose the by-election. It’s the third safest riding in the country.

So many ridings where Liberals could’ve voted NDP or NDP voted Liberals to keep the Cons out. Sigh.
At least we didn’t elect the fascist-lite option but they still got way too many seats for comfort. Still, we’re better off than where we would’ve been had we gone to the polls in the Fall πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ’ͺ🏻

It looks like in this riding the smart strategic vote is Green. Strategic voting doesn’t always mean Liberal. In some ridings the smart strategic vote to keep out the conservatives is NDP or GreenπŸ™‚πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ’ͺ🏻

Toronto Star - Wikipedia

The Star isn’t right-leaning & they have always endorsed Liberals since 1922 with 4 exceptions - Cons 2 times & NDP 2 times.

Agreed. Whether the Liberals win a majority or (large?) minority, the NDP will be looking for a new leader/direction. The Conservatives need a reckoning. Canadians don’t want the far-right ideology they seem to be keen on importing from the US - aside from 25% of his base. It’ll be interesting! :-)

26.04.2025 15:31 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Oh no worries! Now if the Globe & Mail endorsed a Liberal I’d fall off my chair :-)

A lot of Canadians don’t want the far-right populism PP is offering (his proposals during the election prove he wants to take us even further right). People on left are voting strategically & β€œloaning” their votes to the Liberals to stop him this one time. They’ll go home to NDP/Green/Bloc next time

In the 50 years to 1972, the Star endorsed the Liberal Party in each federal general election. In the fifteen federal elections between 1968 and 2019, the Star has endorsed the Liberal Party eleven times, the New Democratic Party twice, and the Progressive Conservative Party twice. (Wikipedia)

β€œA Strategic Vote Is Still A Vote

There are key ridings β€” where New Democrats are the best choice to beat Conservatives.

These will be close races, and the reasonable desire to vote for Mark Carney could tip the balance for Pierre Poilievre.

We can’t let that happen.”

No worries! I haven’t had my coffee yet either. I was surprised to say the least to see the G & M endorsing Carney & went looking for it. Lol. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ’ͺ🏻

Star Editorial Board: In a time of crisis, Mark Carney is the steady hand Canada needs He has the best plan and the best resumΓ© β€” and his Liberals are the strongest team.

This isn’t in the G & M, it’s The Star editorial board. The paragraph you’ve quoted is at the end. The G & M editorial board leans Poilievre.
