I agree.
I watched At Issue last night and I couldnβt understand why the panel was essentially gushing over it. It was ridiculous. Especially Althia Raj. Great speech? Like did we listen to the same thing? And Iβm tired of panels saying he sounds statesman-like whenever he does the bare minimum.

Just read a CBC article that said heβs meeting Xi on Friday.
βPresident Xi Jinping will have an in-depth discussion with Carney on Friday. He said China is ready to move forward on their strategic partnership.β

Thanks for replying and attaching a link, much appreciated. I would take this with a grain of salt, the Daily Express is a tabloid and not exactly known for journalistic integrityπΈ

I canβt find a legitimate news source reporting on this. The quote this points to looks like an X post quoting a WSJ article but Iβm unable to find that article. Do you have any further links?

Exactly. Iβm a lefty ABC voter but itβs ridiculous to assume he may not win the by-election & still be leader. Heβs going to win the seat & be back in the HOC in a few months. It would cost taxpayers to move him in/out. Also thereβs precedent for letting them stay. Itβs not a fight worth having.

I agree with you @rachelgilmore.bsky.social Iβm appalled by some of these responses. I loathe PP but heβs going to be re-elected in a short time & move back in anyway. Thereβs precedence for letting him stay in the meantime from what Iβve read. I get we all wish he wouldnβt come back but he will :-(

The riding heβs been handed to run in voted 82% for the Cons. Itβs mathematically impossible for him to lose the by-election. Itβs the third safest riding in the country.

So many ridings where Liberals couldβve voted NDP or NDP voted Liberals to keep the Cons out. Sigh.
At least we didnβt elect the fascist-lite option but they still got way too many seats for comfort. Still, weβre better off than where we wouldβve been had we gone to the polls in the Fall π¨π¦πͺπ»

It looks like in this riding the smart strategic vote is Green. Strategic voting doesnβt always mean Liberal. In some ridings the smart strategic vote to keep out the conservatives is NDP or Greenππ¨π¦πͺπ»

Toronto Star - Wikipedia
The Star isnβt right-leaning & they have always endorsed Liberals since 1922 with 4 exceptions - Cons 2 times & NDP 2 times.

Agreed. Whether the Liberals win a majority or (large?) minority, the NDP will be looking for a new leader/direction. The Conservatives need a reckoning. Canadians donβt want the far-right ideology they seem to be keen on importing from the US - aside from 25% of his base. Itβll be interesting! :-)

A lot of Canadians donβt want the far-right populism PP is offering (his proposals during the election prove he wants to take us even further right). People on left are voting strategically & βloaningβ their votes to the Liberals to stop him this one time. Theyβll go home to NDP/Green/Bloc next time

In the 50 years to 1972, the Star endorsed the Liberal Party in each federal general election. In the fifteen federal elections between 1968 and 2019, the Star has endorsed the Liberal Party eleven times, the New Democratic Party twice, and the Progressive Conservative Party twice. (Wikipedia)

βA Strategic Vote Is Still A Vote
There are key ridings β where New Democrats are the best choice to beat Conservatives.
These will be close races, and the reasonable desire to vote for Mark Carney could tip the balance for Pierre Poilievre.
We canβt let that happen.β
