Front cover: The Spoilt Kill, Mary Kelly. Illustrated with a painting of a pottery. A βBRITISH LIBRARY CRIME CLASSICβ
Finished this yesterday. A 1960s pottery in Stoke seems an unlikely setting for a crime novel, but it absolutely works. An air of Endeavour about it in the vivid settings and characters, and the weary, unloved, but sympathetic narrator

If you've not read this yet - first published by @blpublishing.bsky.social back in 2017 but still very much in print - then I think you'll enjoy it for World Book Day today. A Book of Book Lists was my fourth book and marked the point where I felt this was the work path I wanted to take.

Tea on Sunday by Lettice Cooper
While the British novelist and campaigner Lettice Cooper is probably best known for her literary novels, such as National Provincial (1938) and The New House (1936), both in print with Persephone Bβ¦
New on the blog today for #ReadIndies, I've written about TEA ON SUNDAY by Lettice Cooper.
A very enjoyable 'closed circle' style whodunnit in which an elderly woman is bumped off in the run-up to her tea party on Sunday afternoon. #BookSky ππ #CrimeFiction

Astonished this was lost for so long, this powerful gothic occult romance whipped along at pace, got progressively darker and more tragic, and kept me gripped right through to the climactic revelations

I swear, I'd buy every book in this range if I had the money and the shelf space (yes, I'd prefer physical copies for these, because they're such damn handsome volumes). It's an amazing collection.
