Early in his transition, Seth came home from school clearly upset about something. I didn't pry; sixth-grade drama, I figured. Later, though, I noticed he'd been in the bathroom a long time. I did the quiet mom knock.

The dehumanization has been one of the hardest things to witness raising my trans son.
I think about the way he’s always felt his body, person was up for debate.
His childhood was stained by people’s obsessive curiosity.
He is resilient and confident. But fuck everyone who stole his peace.

One of my favourite books ever. It is like reading my own words. A healing experience for people who experienced childhood trauma. If I ever publish my memoir, it will be because this book inspired me to do so 💛
