Session Themes & Co-Chairs | slu.se
In June, the BIOGEOMON 2026 is in Umeå! So many great sessions to submit an abstract to, including the one I am chairing - Biodiversity Trade-Offs and Co-Benefits in Ecosystem Restoration.
Abstract deadline February 6th!

I might be completely off basing on the picture but it looks to me like some potamogeton species. Maybe?

Ever wondered how riparian forests in production stands differ from those in primary forests? Wonder no more...
We show that they are different is forest structure, diversity and ecological functions in northern Sweden.

Downstream Temperature Effects of Boreal Forest Clearcutting Vary With Riparian Buffer Width
You have to enable JavaScript in your browser's settings in order to use the eReader.
Small boreal streams in clearcuts can warm up by 4°C in summer if they have buffers <10m on each side of the stream. This thermal change is propagated to downstream reaches situated in forests. Led by Maria Myrstener & @linegreis.bsky.social

Yeah, 'waste of time' is definitely a wrong way to look at it. I consider it part of our job.

Riparian buffers mitigate downstream effects of clear-cutting on instream metabolic rates
Clear-cutting of forests with little or no regard for riparian buffers alters the local abiotic habitat of streams within and downstream of clear-cuts…
I don't know if anyone cares these days but we have a new paper out showing that riparian buffers >15 m wide are needed to prevent changes in key aquatic processes at clearcuts but also downstream of them! A superb work by Maria Myrstener et al.

Completely agree that we cannot replace people by AI in the review process. But this article does not suggests that. It actually gives quite useful tips on how you can get help from AI, e.g., dictating your notes as you read, editing your 'rude' language...I think this might actually help.

Great question Jono. I am pretty sure it won't look the same but which direction will it go is hard to guess. But I think lectures will be transformed somehow, examination too. If the trend of past years continues, more job tasks will be put on us, with the same expectations of being best in all😓

In the latest issue of #skogseko (Skogssyrelsen magazine), I have been interviewed about riparian buffers. Read here (only in Swedish).
