I took part in a video from Indie Game Clinic about playtesting, which is a subject I feel strongly about ๐ค
Go watch it! It's good! (I'm not biased at all).

Calm down, no riot please !
I'm still hard at work on Storm Settlers on my way for a playtest on โญApril 20thโญ
I added a bunch of new mechanics such as a "mood" system influencing the settlers productivity and actions.
Better treat them right or they'll let you know ๐ก

Thank you ! What's the point of being stronger if everybody else is also stronger ?
Still working on Storm Settlers. I added new types of caravans and balanced how they progress through the game.
And I'm currently working on a "mood" system, to have settlers be angry / happy based on what's going on in the game.

The ultimate goal of improving the water art was to make tile resources "run out" eventually. A problem in my game was that a lot of things were "infinite" making it very hard to balance.
So now water patches eventually run out, with ofc a visual feedback!

I like that you got some work done by making art about not getting work done.
I spent a couple days giving some love to the water art.
A lot more animation and texture on top moving with the wind, based on the next sandstorm (and moving faster during the storm)

New year, new features !
I added some new features to the explorer and I'm experimenting with tile degradation when buildings are exploiting them ๐ค
#indiegame #citybuilder
Yes ! This is Unreal 5.5. I do use components yes, but also a little bit of inheritance, but I try to keep stuff flexible to be able to tweak the balancing easily, the buildings are almost all the same class but with different functionalities. Same for the civilians.
2 years working on Storm Settlers condensed in a 9 min video ๐ฅณ

A yearly recap video about my game, they are always fun to make and they always do well, so it's a win win.
"worth paying attention to" is a great way of wording it.
Why should I pay attention to something you didn't care enough to make ?
Elder millennial trying to promote on Tiktok, but lost the battle against his intrusive thoughts.

Took me 4 playtesters videos and more than a year to realize the random name generation of the 3 first settlers do not work ๐

New devlog!
I ran some playtests a couple months ago for my survival citybuilder Storm Settlers and gave myself a milestone to tackle all that feedback.
I talk about the recurring problems the playtesters were facing and how I (hopefully) fixed them!

I'll put back on my producer hat to determine everything that I'll need for a new playtest so I can announce when it will happens and aim for that date (milestones really helps me get things done ๐ค)
Other than that I tackled more than 40 various feedback and it will leave the game in a much better state for me to tackle the new content.
The storm specifically is a lot more engaging, the player knows the direction of the next storm and shows how the spreading of the sand would happen, giving it a much more interesting strategic aspect to it.
Ok I'm done with the mini milestone I gave myself to adress the feedback from the last playtest that still needed to be adressed. While the game content didn't change much, the things that were already there improved a lot !
#indiegame #citybuilder
A recurring problem in every playtest was that players wouldn't understand how the storm would spread the sand.
So I made "fake storms", that are just gust of winds, that would show a bit of sand spilling onto the tiles or blocked by walls.
It also adds to the ambience !

If you want to take part in the next playtest, come hang out on the game's discord server where most of the playtest interactions happen: discord.gg/qp9u9dmXYG
Expect to hear again from me in about a month-ish, after I'm done will all those tasks !
So I got a couple small tasks, mostly quality of life stuff, I want to tackle, which will allow me to see how accurate my time estimates are and then I'll reevaluate what needs to be done for the next playtests and probably announce a date for the next playtest.
There's still a couple of tasks to do and I don't want to waste anybody's time by going through new playtests when I'm not even done fixing what needed to be fixed from the previous one.
I also divided those task for what would be needed to be worth a new playtest, but before I can announce the next playtest date based on those evaluations, I want to tackle everything that is left to do based on the feedback on the previous playtest.
Little update on what's going on with Storm Settlers.
After releasing the steam page, I put on my producer hat and made a big planif, noting every single tasks needed to reach the final release and giving them a time evaluation.

One of the most requested feature of my last playtest was to be able to place walls by simply dragging like you would roads.

If you play FF6 and don't suplex the train, have you really played ?
My buddy the bagel man has released a huge update for the first year anniversary of his game's release.
You should check it out !
To add diversity to the settlers, I made them a different outfit based on their current job.
Can you guess what's each of their jobs ?

A polish youtuber gave my game a go ๐ฎand the english dub was good enough to follow along.
Always cool to see what people do in my game and gives me good pointers about what to do next ๐ค
