The smearing of voters by the Daily Mail should come as no surprise. But the demonisation & delegitimisation of Asian voters is yet another low with "sectarian by-election" used with no quotation marks. In Mail land apparently not all votes are of equal worth. #GortonAndDenton

With a doc film / curating a film festival on my mind. Happy to be here in Glasgow city centre to see ‘Finland: the happiest country that almost never existed’ by @lesleyriddoch.bsky.social & Gavin Hanigan. A big space, rammed wi folk eager to hear different world perspectives. A reassuring thing.

The platforming of Nigel Farage and treating him with kid gloves continues unabated at the #BBC. A decade after the Brexit vote Laura Kuenssberg gives Reform one hour of free publicity.

Alison Phipps: Monolingualism was invented to serve capitalism and colonialism

In Scotland, it’s estimated that around 170 languages are present, most spoke as languages for love and nurture, which is what, at best, the languages spoken at home are, writes Alison Phipps ✍️

Three more Farage bloc MEPs alleged to have followed Russian asset’s script At least eight MEPs elected for Ukip or Brexit party now known to have been focus of efforts by jailed Nathan Gill

The argument that Farage ally Nathan Gill was just a lone agent working for the Russian state has been completely discredited. Three more UK MEPs in Nigel Farage's bloc are now alleged to have "followed the script" given Gill by an alleged Russian asset. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Why the Highlands are rebelling against renewable energy – and how to make it work for the people The simplistic depiction of renewables versus communities is a fallacy, and a potentially dangerous one, writes Dr Josh Doble

Why is Labour so poor at regicide & deposing terrible leaders? The party has in recent decades abandoned all the main tenets of labourism but still clings to one last tenet: that the party does not overthrow disastrous leaders. Why does Lab still cling to this under Starmer?

Nobody knows what Keir Starmer stands for & believes in. He has no vision or purpose. But there is as big a malaise at the heart of this Labour government which goes beyond Starmer. What does it stand for except to not be Corbyn, Tories or Farage? #Newsnight

PIP helps people get by in their day to day lives – with essentials like getting washed and dressed, managing medicines, eating and drinking, and mobility.

Labour continues to target those who can afford it least, throwing lives into turmoil and pushing many into poverty.

No independence referendum while I am Prime Minister, says Keir Starmer THE Prime Minister has dismissed a second independence referendum for Scotland ...

This is a decision for the people of Scotland, not Keir Starmer.

Labour has lost the argument - the latest poll shows 54% in favour of independence. But instead of making their case to the public, they've decided to block the democratic process.

When landowners say they it doesn’t matter who owns land but instead it is how it is managed that matters, I always ask if I can have their land & they can continue to manage it. I have had no takers yet.

This is an important story about the UK Govt & its policy on Israel & the war in Gaza. No other UK newspaper has put it on its front page. Well done @scotnational.bsky.social doing what no one else would do.

Typical of Labour to be agonising publicly over scrapping the two child cap or not. Once upon a recent time they would have instinctively gone for the right decision. (And not been so fearful of The Treasury.)

Scottish Labour accused of trying to hide candidate’s link to scandal-hit firm Byelection campaign material does not disclose Davy Russell’s work for company previously accused of data falsification

Scottish Labour does not have its problems to seek out. This has been true for a while. But it gets ridiculous when they are trying to hide their candidate in an important by-election: for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Former Labour MP turned hard Brexiteer Gisela Stuart selected Friedrich A. Hayek's 'The Road to Serfdom' as her key political visionary text. Hayek's book makes the case for unfettered free market capitalism & is one of the cornerstones of Thatcherism. What a political journey!

Helen,

You are my MP.

I have heard you say *nothing* about the deliberate starvation of 1.7M people in Gaza.

This is your responsibility - as 1 of only 650 in our sovereign parliament in a country that can and must comat this now.

And you are an MP in the party of power to boot.

Do something.

Are you still supporting a Brexit party? In Scotland the only parties supporting #RejoinEU are the Scottish ones - The SNP and Greens.

If you're one of the large majority here who want to rejoin, you know what to do in the 2026 Holyrood election.
