I am especially fond of his "Newford series", which starts with a collection of short stories entitled "Dreams Underfoot".
Magical realism is increasingly valuable as times grow darker and Charles de Lint is a wonderful intro author for this genre.
This is fascinating! The implications of this delivery for the psychology of those two women suggests they could be a textbook example in the chapter on personality development.
We are entering an era where relying on the existing economic system and/or being disconnected from each other won't be a viable strategy, for almost anyone.
But beginning to concretely vision a way through where we become more connected and self-sufficient on a community level helps, sometimes.
We are nearing the end.
important context about the concentration camps in el salvador:
Disruption and rebellion doesnβt always have to look violent, either. But when the laws are unjust, the people upholding the laws are unjust, then breaking the rules becomes necessary. Whatβs that statement everyone keeps saying? Oh yeah - good trouble. Do that.
Resistance which only operates within the bounds of the very system which it is purporting to resist is not genuine or effective resistance.
I'm not disagreeing. I just mean it's likely more ignorance rather than maliciousness (first point) and possibly not as bad as this depiction of the data would suggest (second point).
First, most males 18-35 are absolutely clueless about international matters & global functioning.
Second, I'd want to see a lot more detail on how this survey was administered and scored before I invested emotional energy in those results. They look rather sus and greatly oversimplified to me.
Every group, given enough people or enough time, will eventually include someone trying to run a scam.
So what is that union and its members going to do? Unite and fight!
Not just his agenda. His statements indicate he sees empathy, caring for others, as being "civilizationally suicidal". He identifies empathy as an existential danger. That's some serious psychopath bullsh!t.

We've done a fourth printing of To Change Everything.

My desire to be informed is at odds with my desire to remain sane.
There are so many layers of wonder in this one little story!
Tasmanian poppy farmers were having a difficult time managing their crops because crop circles were damaging the flowers. They discovered that the culprits were wallabies, who were getting under the fences, eating the poppies and getting stoned. And when wallabies get stoned, they hop in circles.
Turns out when wallabies get stoned they hop in circles. #NotAliens #OnlyinAustralia
This is the middle step between that ridiculous stadium costing a huge amount of money and it costing a horrific number of Tasmanian lives.
No injuries other than the poor innocent bird killed by the engine, you mean. π
Sometimes it feels like Iβm going crazy, because there is something that is right in front of our faces, has been for years, and nobody of consequence ever says it:
Donald Trump works for Vladimir Putin.
How much more proof does anyone need? And what is anybody going to do about it?
Disturbing, fundamentally revolutionary changes are on our technological doorstep.
Reminding them of their duty not to follow illegal or immoral orders is not "threatening them with war crime tribunals".
Of course they will. They'll just say it was a "non-core promise".
There are numerous ways medical needs could get met if the current system collapsed. While it may not be as easy, and the care may not be exactly the same as we have now, system collapse is not a necessarily a death sentence for those with medical needs. Have hope. Community is full of possibility.
Because that vision, that imagination of a better world, will be both our motivation and our moral compass.
It will sustain us, and it will guide us through.
Losing hope is letting them win.
The long game is a game of dream and vision.
We need to remember that we WILL survive us. There will be wounded to tend and dead to warn, but collectively we will survive.
And we need to imagine a future worth looking forward to.
The beast will eventually eat itself.
The more we can keep it from mauling the rest of us, the more we refuse to offer each other up as meals, the faster it will turn to its own flesh to feast.
That is the immediate game.
Something we all should remember, as we talk about worst case scenarios and ways to plan for and survive them:
It's very much worth remembering that we collectively can and will survive them.
And, we will build something beautiful on the ashes of their corrupt and childish violence.
