A pinky/purple square showing the three candidates for the Labour Women United slate for the Labour Party's National Women's Committee: Nikki Belfield, Saranya Thambirajah and Cat MacLean. Their priorities are: Full inclusion of our trans sisters in our party. Working with party leadership to tackle the βboysβ clubβ culture. Improved approach to safeguarding, particularly for young members. A standalone, democratic, annual Womenβs Conference.

Really good to see this - and continuing much needed pushback within the party
@labour4transrights.bsky.social is doing very important work now more than ever.
Really excited to see what is to come.
And it's on one of my favourite albums!
It's great to see how much engagement this is getting already. Keep spreading the word!
A privilege to be part of setting this up β go to www.ko-fi.com/labourfortra... now to join us!
Thank you Emily for having the courage to speak out on this instead of going with the received wisdom.
I have been concerned for a while about the detrimental impact that a blanket ban could have on LGBT teens, and I'm so glad that you are making the case for a more nuanced approach.
A blanket ban is not the solution to making our online sphere safer, we must not allow social media companies to forget their responsibility.
It was an honour to talk to Ian Russell about the steps needed to make the online world safer.
I really hope Tom gets a better seat next time (if he's still interested in being an MP), because we need minds like his in the PLP
Amen to this
Angeliki is a brilliant woman and I'm sorry she's not in Parliament. The absolute shit candidates (and MPs) get from all sides (and the whole political spectrum) is unbelievable.
It's the constant questioning of good faith that's the worst tbh - and the idea that you're fair game for nastiness.
Had a great time in Manchester today!
Reform don't want to regulate your landlord.
They don't want to regulate your employer.
But they do want to regulate your sex life.
Really good piece here.
Liberalism is often a dirty word on both the right and left of Labour, but it shouldn't be.
We are the heirs to a proud liberal socialist tradition, and it is when we have drawn from that tradition that we have found our greatest successes as a party.

Ultimately, courts can only interpret the law that exists before them.
Itβs up to our Party and our labour movement to have the appetite to fight for a coherent vision of equality.

There is therefore no reason to depart from my conclusions on delay/prematurity and on standing/alternative remedy. I therefore refuse permission to bring judicial review proceedings.

I brought my parents into Parliament again β and surprised them by winning the New Labour MP of the Year Award by the Patchwork Foundation!

But we need to keep up the pressure to make sure including trans people is the default.
The Guardian is reporting that EHRC is looking again at its proposed code of practice for single-sex spaces.
It is a great speech.
The Labour Party, and the UK more broadly, is in desperate need of someone like Carney β an unashamed liberal internationalist who understands the perils of this new era of great power competition and the need for middle powers to work together to protect trade and democracy.
Everyone in Labour who is a verified student β go and nominate Georgia
The effective conclusion of the ET is that trans people have to use third spaces. I think based on very poor legal analysis and uncritical adoption of "gender critical" talking points. But as I say, not binding, and all the relevant issues hopefully to be decided shortly by the High Court.
Still not seen the full judgment, but notably the ET dismissed the harassment claim against Rose Henderson, the trans woman in the Darlington Nurses case.
Yet another trans woman who has been publicly demonised after doing nothing wrong.
It's important to note that, as with Peggie, this is an Employment Tribunal decision so it is not case law and sets no precedent. The only interesting aspect of it is the reasoning behind the analysis.
Absolutely this π
Just put in the order for my first set of leaflets as a local election candidate, which is quite exciting
There is, to my mind, no justification for the continued use by the UK Government of X as a platform for official comms. There hasn't been for some time, in fact, but if the latest developments around AI-generated image abuse and CSAM don't change the policy I really don't know what will.
