Brass officers wouldn't have turned down this offer, had it been their decision to make. Boeing came close to failure because accountants were trying to build airplanes. Accountants don't know how to build airplanes. Presidents don't know how to defend our troops or direct combat.

Holy shit - this would be very, very bad:
"The databases, called “Numident” and the “Master Death File,” include records for more than 500 million living and dead Americans, including Social Security numbers, places and dates of birth, citizenship, race and ethnicity, and parents’ names."

Again, several ongoing corruption scandals happening all at once that make Watergate look positively tame.

MLA, ACLS, and AHA lawsuit reveals use of ChatGPT in illegal termination of grants by DOGE. Motion for summary judgment asserts violations of the First Amendment; violations of the Equal Protection Clause; and violation of the separation of powers. mla.org/NEH-Lawsuit
The MLA, @acls1919.bsky.social, and @historians.org have filed a motion for summary judgment in our lawsuit to restore the NEH. Discovery documents reveal that DOGE rather than the acting chair led grant terminations and targeted grants using ChatGPT. More at mla.org/NEH-Lawsuit

It's also a bad use of fossil fuels when there's the option to meet online.
We don't need to fly all over the place to gather, when there's a perfectly good option that takes *significantly* less energy (and much of the energy used for online meetings can come from renewables, unlike jet fuel).

It was *already* unethical to hold in-person conferences.
I've been arguing as much since 2014, so it isn't *just* about the ongoing pandemic that permanently damages the immune, circulatory, nervous, and renal systems of the human body, or about the recent increase in measles and TB.

TL;DR - the company that makes your favorite sriracha is run by an asshole who tried to screw over his business partner and it backfired big time.

bottles of greenish brown sriracha next to a smaller one in the traditional red color.
Anyway, the farm, now with thousands of acres of peppers, started making its own sriracha. Huy Fong was unable to secure reliable sources of fresh, red peppers. Some arrived damaged, too old, or even green. The result is that Huy Fong sriracha is now showing up green and brown on shelves.

Huy Fong tried to poach the farm's COO to run their new pepper company, but it didn't work. They had also taken drone footage of the farm's fields and supplied the footage to other farms so they could see how the peppers were grown and how the operation ran.

The court found the Sriracha maker guilty of fraud. They had secretly started their own pepper supplier and tried to get the farm to supply that shell company at a far lower cost. Meanwhile the farm, partnered with Huy Fong for 25 years, had no other clients so they were in dire straits.

10 years ago, Huy Fong, the company that makes the most popular sriracha, screwed over its pepper supplier by ordering a whole years worth of peppers, millions of dollars worth, then refusing to pay. Worse, they sued the farm for a refund on prior money paid. The court sided with the farm big time.

Has anyone encountered those bottles of green Sriracha out in the wild yet? The exact same packaging with no explanation for why it's a muddy green color? I was just reading up on what happened there and it's a wild story, what Huy Fong did to its pepper suppliers.

I sometimes worry that too many people think being a good critic means being a self-righteous dick about every little thing and I think far too many miss the point that you can't critique anything if you don't know how to love something.

But I do know that what we're doing is wrong.

The DC Disciplinary Counsel has filed ethics charges against DOJ pardon attorney Ed Martin over the letter he sent Georgetown on its DEI policies, court filings show
The charges, filed Friday but made public Tuesday, allege he violated the 1st & 5th amendments of the constitution by using his position to threaten not to hire Georgetown students unless the school ceased teaching DEI
