A willow called “ahuejote”, used to stabilize chinampas and as a natural wind barrier. It has a tall upright shape.
A weeping willow, called “sauce llorón” in Mexico. It has a short downward shape. It offers a good shade, specially on riverbanks.
I see... There's a high probability that we are talking about different trees, since I'm a few miles away from Michoacan.
After a quick search, I found the ahuejote. It's a willow, yes, but it's a rather slim upright one. The weeping willow has a different, more downward shape.
No worries, you were right... Trees and fish may even have different names in different communities within the same country. 😵💫
Oh, I see... Yes, they are actually different, but willows are a huge family with way over 400 different species. The ‘weeping’ willow is one of these, but never heard it being called ahuejote in my community. Probably a different kind of willow?
