having a legal education makes it worse.
i think typically people ask for new ones if they have a hard time with scrupulosity and want to be able to perform the penance right away vs feeling like they’re not 100% absolved for X days while they complete it. i haven’t heard about anyone asking for a lighter one for the sake of it
