I guess you might do the WAR math in your exact scenario. If, for whatever reason, you could only have 1 of those 2 players, it would make sense to consider, "ok, if I took the OF, then who would I put at 2B?"
but that's SO situational and depends on, like, who moved to your town
like, if given the choice between a 2B and OF who were exactly equal in all defensive and offensive stats, except the 2B hit 10 HRs and the OF hit 15, the 2B would likely have a higher WAR, but you'd rather have that OF on your team, right?
#baseball I've been thinking ... WAR is a kind of pointless, or at best very abstract and academic, in the context of an amateur league, or other low level, where there isn't a ready or meaningful supply of "replacement" players.
