I looked at this list again to see if there was anything I wanted to add to it or my #MSWL (there was! I added one new item to the "cravings" page and linked to that page and the "likes" page on my general MSWL)...and what I wouldn't do for stories that hit one or more of these things πππ
Would loveeee to see a YA query in my inbox that features a group of kids similar to the squad in Attack the Block or Bottoms. Totally different genres, but someone out there has to be reading this and going, "Yeah, I get it. I get the vibes you're looking for." π
And as a big film/TV lover, I find it useful to share movies and shows that capture the plots, vibes, and storytelling style/craft I'm looking for in books. You can see some here along with books I enjoyed as well: www.jane-chun.com/likes My #MSWL and submission guidelines are also on my site!
In addition to my #MSWL, you can also see super specific things I'm currently hungry for on my "cravings" page: www.jane-chun.com/cravings If your query fits any of these (and doesn't hit my "do not send me" list on my MSWL), I'll be excited to see it!
Happy #MSWL day, writers! I rep MG, YA, and adult and am open to contemporary, historical, fantasy, sci-fi, speculative, and horror. I'm a BIG graphic novel person and I also do nonfiction as well! You can see my wish list & submission guidelines here: manuscriptwishlist.com/mswl-post/ja...
Yvonne is talented and hilarious! I haven't laughed out loud reading something in ages, but her @shortboxcomicsfair.bsky.social comic about a cat who joins a mediocre middle school boys' basketball team SENT me so I immediately reached out to her. Can't wait for everyone to meet Butter Beans! ππΎπ
When you see how many people are out today for the strike in Minneapolis, remember that this is the temperature

"Slavery was real"
Tiny sign at the base of a brick wall that, until yesterday, held panels about the people enslaved by George Washington.

Many Americans, who like to walk around with large guns, have spent countless decades posturing about standing up to tyranny. Yet when it comes, theyβre actually the agents terrorizing neighborhoods. While the courageous ones are scared regular people who are finding power through each other.

This is one of the most insane protests I've ever been to. Tens of thousands of Minnesotans in -20Β°F (-28Β°C) cold with absolutely manic energy. We are going to throw these goddamn bastards out of our cities.
Another question I came here with was: how effective are the whistles and honking? Does it stop abductions? And the answer is, surprisingly to my cynical self, yes, and often. I have talked to so many people who have successfully interrupted kidnappings.
My loose info so far is that the Minneapolis General Strike today had about 80 unions sign on, and it might be one of the biggest labor actions in decades depending on your definition
Solidarity with Minnesota. An attack on one is an attack on all. #ICEOUT

Two small children hold signs they made. "LEAVE MY FRIENDS ALONE!" "ICE GIT OUT YA FUCKIN DUMBIES π‘"
Gotta remind yourself not to cry when you see the kid's signs.
It's negative -25Β°F and tears are dangerous.

If the admin's strategic goal was to break public resistance to immigration enforcement activities, it was a tactical mistake to go to the Twin Cities.

Exactly how I feel! And thank YOU for trusting me with your work π
Fucking incredible.
The 5-year-old arrested by ICE In Minnesota is detained at Dilley. We reported on conditions there in the below article.
Parents said the food was contaminated with mold and worms & that children were so under so much stress that they were hitting their own faces & wetting themselves.
I've talked to people on the ground about the strike here tomorrow, and the single thing everyone brings up is just how shockingly wide the support for the strike is. Businesses that no one would have expected to support it are doing so.
Lol the number of times I've swung between exhaustion & "this is my supervillain origin story" bc of landlords while looking for apts & dealing with leases and bad things with my place (while my rent kept rising EXORBITANTLY) & editors venting/commiserating about the same thing when reviewing HH...π
in a place that has somethingβusually multiple thingsβwrong with it and unsympathetic landlords. HOUSE HUNTERS pushes this to the extreme with desperate, superpowered tenants forced to battle one another to the death for the right to shelter. But while the themes are dark, there's humor & heart too!
Apartment/house hunting is stressful and absurd; you scramble to beat an unknown number of faceless people to get and keep a roof over your head, and even when you're the lucky person who gets the lease (and whose opportunities therefore don't die), too often you discover you're trapped
So stoked to share this with the world! HOUSE HUNTERS resonated with meβand all the editors who saw the projectβbecause we've all suffered the struggle of finding a place to live. Kelly is unbelievably talented, and HH is both dark AND funny with vibrant, energetic art that'll suck you in! π₯π₯
