Little talent and a lot of testingπ€£
π₯°
Yeah... This is the correct choice π₯²
As long as I do some proper groundwork, managing two different fonts shouldn't be that big of an issue.
True.
The inconsistent pixel density really hurts me personally though.. π€£
Should've maxed my wisdom instead... Would've probably saved a lot of time π€£
Nothing is off the table, but tbh, it going that well isn't something I even dare to hope for yet. π
Also, I wouldn't even know where to begin with console distribution. That's probably something where I'd finally have to resort for outside help.
But as said, definitely not off the table π₯°
Might fiddle with the highres font to make sure that each letter is the same relative width as in the lowres oneπ
Thanks! π₯°
Yeah. Most likely I'll end up having the high-res one as an option. It's not a big issue, but I might want to adjust the font so that each letter is exactly the same relative width as the low-res font. So that I won't end up with cases where one fits in a text box while the other doesn't.
Yeah. I still feel that I can make the left one readable enough with slight additional improvements.
The right one will be an option, not the default.
This is probably what I'll do in the end.
The only issue is that it'll double the amount of checking I'll have to do to see that none of the dynamic text of the events takes too much space π₯²
Alagard looks lovely π₯°
11px... goddamnit π€£
Sure it! Does clash with the UI though... π«
Yeah thatβs the issue... It's either unified retro feel or readability π«
Will probably allow for both. Finding a happy medium between the two seems impossible π
Many wished for a higher-res #font so I drew a 10px one π₯°
It does pain me that it's 2x pixel density when compared to everything, but... How does it look to everyone else? π«
It'll probably either be the default, or an option.

Thanks for the feedback π₯°
I sure hope I'll get this 5px one to look good enough π
I'll continue following the comments carefully π
Any additional comments about the font's legibility before the release and I'll do something to make it better π₯°
Thanks! π₯°
Yeah... 5px is brutal... π«
I'll see what I can do π
With this game, if it's unreadable, it's literally unplayable π«
Yes, I've that is definitely something I should add!
I'll also try a font that is 2x the pixels compared to the rest of the game.
I've noticed that not too many games care as much as I do about keeping the font at the same pixel density as the art. I'll have to see how much it breaks my soul π
Thanks!
Will see if I still like it tomorrow. But now that I have it in aseprite it's really easy to make adjustments on the fly. π₯°
Yeah... To be fair, even just changing the "e" would've been a massive improvement from the Tiny 5. π
π₯°
Great! π₯°
Will be posting many more screenshots and continue to refine it as I get feedback π
Thanks! π₯°
To be fair, the game is absolutely full of text so that terrible "e" wasn't just a little thing π
Will see if I can improve the font further!
That is great to hear π₯°
Not completely off the table. Let's say it's on a side table though. π
6px is doable but a properly readable font (something like 10px) would look ridiculously large with my pixel density.
I might try how sacrilegious it looks if I allow the text to be of 2x pixel density than everything else.
Multiple text panels are viable. But I'd still need to "rewrite" all hundred events deciding where to split. π±
I will try to push on with 5px for now. If I keep getting comments about it being difficult to read, I'll go up to 6px.
That'll require greatly reducing the amount of text per individual event, but it isn't impossible.
5px vs 6px would be a massive improvement in readability π₯²
Yeah, the e was the only letter in the Tiny 5 that I genuinely hated π
Trying to improve the legibility of the #font.
Tbh, I can't event tell if its better or worse anymore π
5px fonts are hard π«
Old one is Tiny 5 by Stefan Schmidt from Google Fonts.
I feel like especially the "e" is harsh on the eyes.
