the use cases for opt-out consent that aren't transparently diabolical are few. of course the company only wants to implement opt-out consent, because literally no author of anything ever would opt-in to this.
i'm not a legal expert, but this FEELS to me like it should be in actionable territory.

it’s such a flawed experiment. they’ve cherrypicked passages from who knows how much else was generated, and any of this kind of writing devoid of context (like, the rest of the book the real writing is from!) is going to make it harder to assess which one you “prefer”. insulting garbage :)
briefly: nyt posted a quiz asking people to choose which passage of prose they prefer. of each set of 2 choices, one was from a well-known author and the other was ai. it very smacks of slop propaganda trying to “prove” that ai “writing” is good actually and people like it better, but…

i worry about this apparent rebranding of the term because using it to mean "marrying ur straight girl bestie bc the dating pool sucks" is concerning erasure of the history of the term and the reality that countless queer people worldwide still contend with.

lavender marriage describes an outwardly "straight" marriage where one or both parties is queer, who marry because it's not safe to be out in your community, maybe for cultural/religious reasons, or it's literally illegal.
it's historically (and still is) a safety strategy for queer people. (3/4)
