A comic book character who actually got his start in comics was #Ka-Zar, first appearing in "Ka-Zar" #1 on October of 1936 and published by #MartinGoodman, the future founder of #MarvelComics, where he would later reappear in #X-Men #10 on Mar. of 1965.
The success of the #Shadow lead to #Street&Smith to create a new pulp hero with #DocSavage, first appearing in "Doc Savage Magazine" on March of 1933. Written by #LesterDent, he would become a chief inspiration for later comic book superheroes like #Superman, #Mr.Fantastic and #TomStrong.
Pulps would also feature masked vigilantes as stars of their stories, with notable ones being #Zorro & the #Shadow, who combined would a be chief inspiration on #Batman, one of the great comic book characters of all time.
One of the classic pulps was #AmazingStories, the first all science fiction magazine launched by #HugoGernsbach on April of 1926. Credited as the father of #sciencefiction since he coined the term, the #HugoAwards, are named after him.
Future #DC & #Marvel founders, #HarryDonnefeld & #MartinGoodman, got into pulp magazines with books like #SpicyAdventureStories and #MarvelTales, whose risquΓ© covers would get them into trouble with the government more than a few times.

Pulps would be a great innovator of the detective/mystery genre, with #BlackMask giving #RaymondChandler & #DashiellHammett their first breaks. #QuentinTarantino even used 'Black Mask' as the working title for his film #PulpFiction in honor of the magazine.
One of the great science fiction writers of all time, #EdgarRiceBurroughs, made his debut in pulps, with both his classic #Tarzan & #JohnCarter stories first appearing in magazines like #All-Story and #Argosy.
#Pulpmagazines understood a great cover was a great way get new readers attention and #WalterBaumhofer was one of the best. Starting out on #DangerTrail, he would later become famous for his #DocSavage covers, earning the nickname the #KingofPulps.
One of the most popular genres in pulps was westerns, with #WesternStoryMagazine from #Street&Smith reaching up to 500,000 in circulation.
One of the most popular of the pulp magazines was #BlueBookMagazine, which launched on May of 1905. It would feature stories by #EdgarRiceBurroughs and #AgathaChristie, along with art by #AlexRaymond, the creator of #FlashGordon.
The first pulp magazine is considered #TheArgosy, created by publisher #FrankMunsey on October of 1896 as an all-fiction magazine. Called 'pulps' due to the cheap paper they were printed on, they would soon inspire whole genres that are incapsulated in the words #pulpfiction.
