Excited for a new collaboration in 2024!
Love this! As a grad student, Iβm teaching for the first time this semester and will definitely do this after I post grades this week!
@camillakgilmore.bsky.social Thanks for including my paper in your advent reading list! I totally agree - there are so many different ways we describe math talk and many of them focus on number of utterances. Iβd love to see if these clusters replicate in other data!
I donβt know why Santa was content with checking his list only twice. I check all my recommendation letters 10+ times out of fear that I will ruin someoneβs chances of getting into grad school by submitting the wrong letter! π¬
We are so excited to share our NY Times guest essay about talking with children about Santa!

Math Discussers had children who spoke more about math. Parent math talk styles did not relate to childrenβs math or language skills. These results encourage the use of person-centered approaches to understand the nuances of how parents talk about math with their children.
I identified 3 styles of parent math talk from observations of parents interacting with their 4 year old children. Math Commentators used mostly math statements, Math Elicitors used mostly math questions, and Math Discussers used a mix of both.
My first ever, first-author paper is out in the world! www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Just discovered an amazing repository of open-access textbooks, with many options for different areas of Psychology. Consider adopting one of these for your undergraduate courses to promote equity and inclusion!
