Reject the Federal Higher Education Compact to Maintain UA’s Autonomy The new federal Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education mandates that universities surrender their autonomy and give control of key authorities, such as hiring, curriculum, research, and student enrollment to the U.S. Federal Government, which is contrary to the Alaska Constitution. As stakeholders in the University of Alaska system, we are writing to preemptively request that the UA Board of Regents reject the opportunity to sign the Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education.

At every turn, President Trump has tried to extort American universities to do his bidding. His new "Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education" is the next phase of his plan.
