I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.

God this is so real. All these sites had their own sets of problems but I miss being able to have a curated gallery that people would actually look at.

Yup! I’m in a healthier habit of letting devices NOT remember my log in so it requires the authentication app every time. Annoying but necessary.

As a note: this is for those who opened/installed a file sent to them over discord and lost control of their discord account and now have malware on their computer via social engineering because that is what happened to me just last month.

On my desktop we did put files I wanted to keep off the old hd onto a new one, but hadn’t gotten around to doing anything with the compromised hd. Good time to take your info for a drive on it.

Wiping is definitely an extreme option. I will agree, and the advice came from a friend who was wanting to take extra precautions. I think question I have is what does a one who doesn’t have access to proprietary tools do for a personal computer?

I posted this as a reply: I got hit with a whammy of my discord compromised (and now unrecoverable) with malware on the desktop which is what’s happening to a lot of folks. We have no idea where the virus is on me comp

Sure. Something I do want to point out is that many of the social engineering scams going through discord are to make people download and install malware to scrap data and take control over the discord account at the same time to get a hit on more users. This is what happened to me an others.

I don’t think that’s picking a fight and good feedback! This is information from my own friends who work in tech since when I got hit with was malware and spyware they couldn’t find the remnants of. What would you advise for folks to do on their personal computers to ensure that it’s not comprised?

I can go on about getting things fixed on Steam and Bluesky, but this thread is long as it is. If anyone else has additional tips, feel free to leave them!
