Lily C.A.T. and the beginning of Aliens are the only two things I've seen that really talk about it.
You go on a mission and come back. People you love are now gone or older than you. Everyone's age is out of sync.
You have to weigh these consequences against every job you consider.
I love it when space travel in scifi stories requires cryo sleep. Missions operating on time scales so long that literal lifetimes can pass by while you're on your commute. Stories barely scratch the surface on why that's so interesting!!
I haven't read Freeze Frame Revolution, but you really can't go wrong with Peter Watts.
The Forever War (Joe Haldeman, 1974) uses relativistic time dilation rather than cryo sleep, but it's all about how destabilizing the experience is.
(The book is also very, VERY '70s, for better and worse.)
Stop spamming people with your soggy, hatefuled dogshit.
(This is reminding me that I need to sit down with my best friend and talk about some things. She's always insisted she's straight, she just "appreciates women aesthetically," but she's also had a hardcore crush on Allison Janney for as long as we've known each other.)
I think that's true of nearly everyone in the series, yeah
The only people who should ever be called "edgelords" are Gen X guys who made Apocalypse Culture and Feral House their whole personality
again imagine that speech bubble effect
People who think ICE serves a purpose watch cops shows and think nothing of cops using the threat of INS/ICE to coerce cooperation.
Martin Sheen plays a rising star and presidential hopeful in it. I always found The West Wing a little difficult to take seriously because of it.
A remider that @bsky.app head of @safety.bsky.app @aaron.bsky.team thinks sexual harassment only warrants a 3 day suspension
Have you seen Cronenberg's The Dead Zone?
Anytime the rsd brainworms start to take hold, I remind myself that my sister literally threatened the guy who was working on rebuilding her home following the fire because she overheard him making some shitty comments with his coworkers.
**Doesn't Help Trans People** * Showing up at pride with a rainbow version of your campaign logo * Selling rainbow merch * Waving a tiny flag * Saying you "stand with" us * Having a trans friend * Putting our rights on hold because it's 'too hard' or 'not the right time' * Ignoring us * Going on podcasts to 'hear out the other side' * Compromising * Telling trans people they're being unreasonable * Telling trans people they're not doing activism the 'right way' * Acting helpless e.g. 'what can we do????' * Prioritizing your popularity over our rights. Our rights are not determined by poll results. * Deciding it's okay to abandon some but not all of us. * Giving in to threats instead of fighting them * Threats that if we don't vote for moderates, the fascists will win
A quick reminder of what actually helps trans people, for liberals **Helps Trans People** * Taking legal action to defend trans access to healthcare, both for youth and adults * Passing laws and making policy that protects our civil rights * Additional funding for gender-affirming care * Policies that explicitly prohibit discrimination against trans people * Enforcing those policies when the time comes * Voting against predatory laws * Refusing to bargain away trans rights in exchange for something else you wanted * Speaking out against hate and hateful laws and hate groups directly * Listening to us * Letting us speak for ourselves
Oh sage I caught this earlier from a lovely transfem on reddit I thought you may wanna save it as well.
Threatening contractors to make sure they're not shitty to your trans friends is pretty solidly on the helpful side, too.
Yeah, there are several photos floating around, that one's just the first one that popped up in my image search.
You know what's extra fucked up about that? I spent years trying to get Facebook to take down a page that was posting shit from the Protocols. The page was still up when I finally deleted my account in ~2023.

CPAC 2021 stage. It's shaped like an upside down Odal rune.
It was a symbol used by the SS. it's similar to the othala rune--which was itself also co-opted by nazis and neonazis--but with upturned wings at the base. The CPAC stage in 2021 was pretty blatant.
I can think of two or three--one of whom was thanked for editing this pile of shit--but thankfully Bluesky's nowhere near as full of them as reddit.

Oh, and my absolute favorite: "no one can tell the difference between bluetooth and a 3.5 jack"
See also, "APS/-v2 and APX/-v0 sound the same," "AAC is good," "Ogg Vorbis is the future," etc etc etc
We will never escape the spectre of "128kbps is CD quality"
Converting images to webp is like converting gifs to mp4 or avif. It's solving a problem that doesn't exist by catering to humanities-challenged computer engineers.

Yeah, it was really bad. The only cheap options were Boltbus and Lucky Star/Fung Wah buses, neither of which were terribly comfortable for fat people with knee problems.
