Here's a piece I wrote explaining my top request coming out of interviews I did for Mayor Wilson's transition -- a clear mayoral directive that ensures that every project that touches our city encourages reduces VMT. Read more π

Is selectively downzoning affluent white neighborhoods going to help the orcas? Asking for a friend
We had a great time tonight talking to @seattledot.bsky.social about Bus Lanes on Denny Way!
The Mayorβs order mandates a plan by April 17. Weβre excited that SDOT is thinking about more than Denny and will keep iterating on solutions in the coming years
"Automakers have spent a century and countless trillions of dollars making car-dependent living the American norm. But U.S. resident still aren't sold"
This is the remarkable thing. Walkable cities have an advertising budget of $0, but people still long for them. Give the people what they want.
Everyone: how cool!
Me: Cool! And also we need to extend the 2nd Ave S bike lanes to the stadiums starting at S Washington St so that everyone can bike and scoot there safely, and pedestrians can rule on Occidental Ave.
It appears that this legend owns a little bookstore β and you can order books from him instead of Bezos. Link in next post.
A schematic of a new plaza including decorative stone paving, additional pedestrian seating including underlit benches, an enhanced bus shelter with wayfinding signage, and interpretive pavings
But thereβs a silver lining. It means construction should begin soon on a new plaza and what appears to be a pretty awesome shelter.
We havenβt tracked down any final design plans but this is what was presented in the developmentβs design review meeting.

Mayor Wilson addresses crowd about executive orders
Excited to announce 2 executive orders at my transition team meeting. My Shelter and Housing Accelerator order will speed efforts to rapidly bring people inside. And my Transit Accelerator order will finally implement a bus lane on Denny. More details on my blog at wilson.seattle.gov #thisisyourcity
Transit riders have been forced to sit through traffic on Seattleβs slowest and least reliable bus for decades. Finally we have a mayor willing to prioritize mobility and the climate to improve our transit system and give Seattleites the freedom of mobility they deserve. Roll out the red carpet!
Bus lanes on Denny Way will also help first responders avoid dangerous maneuvers during an emergency response.
We are beyond honored to have joined Mayor Wilson this morning to announce an executive order for bus lanes on Denny Way. We can't wait to finally Fix the L8 and see what she has in store for the next 4 years of Seattle's transit
The second item: "We're going to be getting out the red paint on Denny Way," Wilson said. "We cannot let one of our highest ridership routes languish in traffic." Bus lane inbound.
"A city that values the pursuits that create beauty and community, whether or not they ever turn into careers. A city that thinks you should have time to read a book and lay on the grass looking up at the clouds." -Katie Wilson
Katie Wilson didn't say the word "urbanism" today, nor did the speakers that paved the way for her swearing-in.
But the vision she laid out was an explicitly urbanist one, a vision of a city that makes room for everyone.
Hey! Go follow my new account, @mayorofseattle.bsky.social !
This is your city β that means that you belong here, you have a right to be here and to live a dignified life, whatever your background and whatever your income. wilson.seattle.gov/2026/01/02/m...
Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattanβ¦
* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M
So YES this has been a huge success.οΏΌ
There have already been multiple studies of what it would take to form a Department of Housing.
We donβt need another study.
We need to just do it.
5 things i hope katie wilson implements in the first few months.
1. path to eliminating parking minimums - and introduce maxes and caps - *citywide*
there are more cars in seattle today than ever before. we need a path to deprioritize cars and reclaim space for people
I've had conversations on behalf of Aurora Reimagined Coalition with at least 3 different people on Wilson's transition team in the past couple weeks who reached out to us first. That's more than we had with Mayor Harrell's office in the last 4 years despite our repeated attempts of outreach.
In response to a question about considering cutting funding for highway expansion projects to fill the budget shortfall, @juliareedwa.bsky.social doesn't want to spend another dollar on highway expansion until we address our existing backlog of maintenance of our transportation infrastructure.
Almost TWO YEARS after a driver veered off the road and destroyed a bus shelter, fully grown tree, and concrete seating, the shelter has been replaced.
Weβve been begging for improvements here since the crash. Thank you @seattledot.bsky.social @kingcountymetro.bsky.social for coming through!
Highways get $$$ because municipalities (and counties) lobby for funding for them.
I want my city to be asking for funding to remove highways (looking at you 99!!!!) and build sidewalks and bike lanes and transit infrastructure and trails etc.
Not more car lanes π΅
I found a flowchart which helps you navigate the IT landscape
What a throwback!
