Retire and let the next generation of Democratic leaders move up. This party isnβt suited to meet this moment.

Attacking these programs in the name of βrejecting DEIβ or whatever misguided rhetoric you want to use, only serves to limit scientific achievement, and stunt the growth of young scientists.
We need more programs like PREP, not less.
The NIH website containing information about PREP programs was scrubbed either this morning or last night. I cannot articulate how beneficial my time in PREP at Mizzou has been. PREP and programs like it are vital to growing our pool of talented scientists.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sectionsβthe independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.
Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
TT changed the game when it came to advocacy on social media. That algorithm made it easier than ever to get your message to millions of people, regardless of follower count. Real change in healthcare has happened on several occasions in part because of TikTok. This is a big loss in a lot of ways.
This is reprehensible. The decision to pursue gender affirming hormone therapy should be between patients and providers. There is no data that calls for this kind of action.

Oh pls yours would be βThis year you spent:
27,000 minutes looking for a comma you forgot to put in your code to run your modelβ
I need Spotify wrapped but for my time in lab. I need an app to pop up in December and say βthis year you spent:
-2200 minutes fighting with antibodies
-1200 minutes being pummeled by PCR
-3000 minutes being whacked by westerns β
@ruha9.bsky.social: "Why can we imagine growing heart cells from scratch in a lab, but not growing empathy for other human beings in our everyday lives...? Even well-resourced schools where young people are encouraged to dream big fall short when it comes to cultivating moral imagination."

Itβs sad to me how much of politics has just become needless cruelty. I hope thatβs something that starts to fade in the coming years.
Science is an endeavor of curiosity, but I think at its core it is also an endeavor of empathy. It feels difficult to be a scientist in this climate.
