I sometimes worry that too many people think being a good critic means being a self-righteous dick about every little thing and I think far too many miss the point that you can't critique anything if you don't know how to love something.

Frankly, none of my fellow body-horror-reading local library users are reading at an acceptably expeditious speed. I EXPECT YOU TO BE FREAKS ABOUT THIS WITH ME.

I know they're only cutting them down because they won't survive the (good for people and good for the lake) construction that will be happening but I AM SO SAD ABOUT IT. You can have 5 months of construction but must you ALSO kill my tree???

Someone please tell me about how it turned out just fine, actually, when the city cut down their tree and then eventually planted another one. St. Paul Forestry has been by and I am bereft 😩

Today at the grocery store, a woman very longingly asked me how it took for my hair to go gray, because she’s impatient for hers to look like mine.

I didn’t have the heart to tell her that I found my first at 13; my secret is genetics and a severe anxiety disorder πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

We are the consequences We, collectively, are the condition that makes their defeat inevitable.

It’s obvious to anyone of conscience that we do not currently have the country we want. I have a feeling that, soon, the fascists are going to find out that they don’t either. www.welcometohellworld.com/we-are-the-c...

Another striking and defiant piece by @erikhane.bsky.social writing from besieged Minneapolis.

"I have come to believe something else too: we are the consequences. We, collectively, are the condition that makes their defeat inevitable."

In case you don't know what this means: you send us the pitch for your book. We mark it up in Word and send it back, with advice on how to sharpen it. You send $100, all of which goes to feed families sheltering in place here in the twin cities.

Reminder that we're doing a query critique donation drive for a shelter-in-place program here in MSP. Going well so far--we're at about $1700 and would love to get to like $2500. Come get your pitch critiqued!

We’re still running this fundraiserβ€”if you or someone you know needs a query critique, jump in!

(It should go without saying but we are a No Questions Asked kinda place. I don’t need you to prove to me why you cannot afford to purchase a slot and/or why you deserve one. We’re all in this together!)

As always we give 100% of what we receive to the program. We’ll show receipts. You get pitch feedback, families get fed. Everyone wins. Let’s go

The program we're funding is entirely volunteer-run, which means that 100% of your money will go DIRECTLY to purchasing nutritious, culturally-appropriate, and ethically sourced food for members of Twin Cities communities.

As always, we will accept gift slots! If you have money to give but don't need a critique, let us know you'd like to purchase a gift critique and we'll give it to someone in the writing community who cannot otherwise afford one.

26.02.2026 14:32 πŸ‘ 15 πŸ” 6 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Here's how it's going to work:
Send $ to us, along with an email with your query, and we'll critique it via track changes!

$100 for one round of critique
$200 for two rounds (we send notes back, you make changes, we make notes again)
