I sometimes worry that too many people think being a good critic means being a self-righteous dick about every little thing and I think far too many miss the point that you can't critique anything if you don't know how to love something.

Itβs been like 6 in a row at this point. Last finished book was sister, Maiden, Monster!
Frankly, none of my fellow body-horror-reading local library users are reading at an acceptably expeditious speed. I EXPECT YOU TO BE FREAKS ABOUT THIS WITH ME.
Are you sailing for adventure on the Big Blue Wet Thing???

I know they're only cutting them down because they won't survive the (good for people and good for the lake) construction that will be happening but I AM SO SAD ABOUT IT. You can have 5 months of construction but must you ALSO kill my tree???
Someone please tell me about how it turned out just fine, actually, when the city cut down their tree and then eventually planted another one. St. Paul Forestry has been by and I am bereft π©
Good morning, Erik
Today at the grocery store, a woman very longingly asked me how it took for my hair to go gray, because sheβs impatient for hers to look like mine.
I didnβt have the heart to tell her that I found my first at 13; my secret is genetics and a severe anxiety disorder π€·π»ββοΈ
Itβs obvious to anyone of conscience that we do not currently have the country we want. I have a feeling that, soon, the fascists are going to find out that they donβt either. www.welcometohellworld.com/we-are-the-c...
There are TWENTY print copies of The Miseducation of Caroline Bingley up for grabs over on Goodreads giveaways! If you're a US or Canadian user, here's your chance to grab one for free!
Weβll make space for you!
Yep! If you sent it there we have it!
I've never read Don DeLillo. Erik has never read a smutty hockey novel. This is going to be HILARIOUS.
Another striking and defiant piece by @erikhane.bsky.social writing from besieged Minneapolis.
"I have come to believe something else too: we are the consequences. We, collectively, are the condition that makes their defeat inevitable."

In case you don't know what this means: you send us the pitch for your book. We mark it up in Word and send it back, with advice on how to sharpen it. You send $100, all of which goes to feed families sheltering in place here in the twin cities.
Reminder that we're doing a query critique donation drive for a shelter-in-place program here in MSP. Going well so far--we're at about $1700 and would love to get to like $2500. Come get your pitch critiqued!
Weβre still running this fundraiserβif you or someone you know needs a query critique, jump in!

Weβre doing a query drive to raise money to help relieve acute food insecurity among families sheltering in place. Come through!
planning an absolute heater of a @printrunpodcast.bsky.social episode that we're recording tomorrow
(It should go without saying but we are a No Questions Asked kinda place. I donβt need you to prove to me why you cannot afford to purchase a slot and/or why you deserve one. Weβre all in this together!)
If you're a writer who could use a query critique but can't donate to this fundraiser, DM me! We have some gifted slots ready and available for the taking!
As always we give 100% of what we receive to the program. Weβll show receipts. You get pitch feedback, families get fed. Everyone wins. Letβs go
The program we're funding is entirely volunteer-run, which means that 100% of your money will go DIRECTLY to purchasing nutritious, culturally-appropriate, and ethically sourced food for members of Twin Cities communities.
As always, we will accept gift slots! If you have money to give but don't need a critique, let us know you'd like to purchase a gift critique and we'll give it to someone in the writing community who cannot otherwise afford one.
Here's how it's going to work:
Send $ to us, along with an email with your query, and we'll critique it via track changes!
$100 for one round of critique
$200 for two rounds (we send notes back, you make changes, we make notes again)
