Interesting focus on Snakemake/Maestro! I assume eventually they'll have a Nextflow too

πΏ Postdoc opportunity in plant evolutionary ecology/genetics!
My lab in the Dept. of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to start Fall 2026.
We study plant adaptation, using weeds as model systems.

Pls RT!
Not yet; check back in 15 min.
If c is for corn this could happen.
On the bright side, you're gaining on me percentage-wise!
Happy birthday. I'm sorry to say, however, that, like last year, this has been yet another unsuccessful attempt to be older than me :) Keep trying though!
Also worst drawings of corn I have ever seen on a cake.
Thatβs silly. Itβs a sale not a monster house. People are just taking time to payβ¦ with their souls.

I took a similar class from Karl Taube. Most the anthropologists grad students would take it twice. Fantastic course.
I spent a summer in grad school chauffeuring the heiress of the Olds fortune in her one-of-a-kind pink convertible Oldsmobile.
I spent a couple of days collecting ebony trees with a mafia boss.
Postdoc in evolutionary genetics with @mbhufford.bsky.social isu.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/IowaStateJob...
Love this kind of thinking about domestication from an ecological perspective. Excited to read this. H/T @mgstetter.bsky.social for sharing this.

This looks neat, actually does a formal analysis of what I've suspected for a long time -- ΞK is an odd way to decide number of pops. H/T @biologyjoe87.bsky.social for the paper. (Personally I think K=0) www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Recently we're working with SNPs from whole genome assemblies to estimate ARGs. It's a pain to go from alignment files to vcf, keeping track of masked and invariant sites. So we wrote a snakemake/SLURM pipeline. Hope it's useful to others, and don't hesitate to post issues if there are problems!
I have a big stash of pink and just havenβt gotten around to doing it again. I should!
What kinda silly person gets their hair dyed hot pink just to celebrate a paper. Certainly not me in 2021.
Good question! First and fourth were the same annual conference just 11 months apart. The third was in fact sort of a recombination of the first and second!
Well said!
I just got back from what I hope is a record: in the last 12 months Iβve been to four maize genetics conferences. In theory five would have been possible!
we talk about carcinization, but never about the many, many times plants have invented the βtree.β
Tree is not a kind of plant, it is a thing plats do, and they are by and large unrelated.
Researchers in the US might be having feelings about writing grants atm-I know I am!
We still need to write them. In this Evolution Exchange, I again chat with Sam Scheiner, who summarizes how to write a competitive proposal.
His advice is gold, and helpful regardless of funder. Pls RT!
Ridiculously brilliant! Parents are terrible, fickle, thoughtless creatures. (My kids tell me this all the time). Need to have written evidence of their criminal uncaring.
I think you could, but as a computational plant biologist I'm the wrong guy to ask.
Consuming too much leucine is bad for your mental health. Makes you go CUU-CUU.
You wrote them both, didn't you Michael.
That's a lot to be wary of.
Yes!!
