It's gone!
I'm struggling to find the right emoji to encapsulate how frustrating this must have been. It's a real problem when being observed by a non-specialist working within a different pedagogical tradition + one I worry policymakers don't fully understand. Your lesson sounds fantastic, btw!
This powerful @georgemonbiot.bsky.social article from 2020 is in the EMC Awe + Wonder anthology. I'll be using it to start my 'Climate Education in English' webinar in June. Two free units of work for all attendees!

It would be an interesting study to track differences in student writing over the years - how do pedagogical + curriculum trends affect what students produce? I think I know just the person for that ...
Giving students 'an appetite for cultural consumption' is a terrific way to approach English

Great numbers on EMC CPD this term. 60 today at @barbarableiman.bsky.social 's 'What is Good Writing for A Level', combo of one-off attendees + EMC webinar package holders. Come join the fun at future courses with a Summer Webinar Package for your team! www.englishandmedia.co.uk/workshops/21...
Researching next term's courses, I came across this slide from a year or two ago. A reminder that English is a subject that resists easy chronological sequencing. Success lies in making effective choices, ones which may well be different to someone else's www.englishandmedia.co.uk/courses/
Wonderful to see schools still sending their teachers on CPD in decent numbers. Two more courses before the end of term that look like filling
At the moment there's only one place left - so hurry!

My favourite day of the EMC year - can't wait for it to come around again!
EMC had done a series of blogs, reflecting on aspects of the curriculum, to contribute ideas to the debates on the new National Curriculum.
Here's the introductory blog by @andrewemc.bsky.social

Happy #WorldBookDay to everyone out there, particularly those in costume - here's the daughter of a member of the EMC team channelling her inner Hettie Nettle to marvellous effect!
Looking through some old PowerPoint slides to prepare for a workshop in a couple of weeks, I came across this - which I rather like
The quality of the writing in emagazine is always top-notch, with leading figures in language and literature contributing, along with teachers and students. As a general reader I also always find the language articles particularly interesting
With access for all students with a web subscription, you can see how the archive offers so much for students looking to develop their knowledge and thinking of a particular area or text
Fascinating article about colour-blind casting in latest TV adaptation of Lord of the Flies by @darrenchetty.bsky.social, co-author with @ksandsoconnor.bsky.social of @engmediacentre.bsky.social published Beyond the Secret Garden www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Brilliant piece for Media Studies looking at radical @channel4.bsky.social anti-racist programming in the 80s. A time when @engmediacentre.bsky.social collaborated with the channel on our publication Powerful Texts @darrenchetty.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

This is an incredibly important blog by my colleague Lucy Hinchliffe on behalf of @engmediacentre.bsky.social All English teachers should take a look & DfE should definitely be talking to us about this. If they get this wrong, nothing else will go right in the Nat Curric for English.
Feb emagazine is now online and the print issue will be in schools in the next couple of weeks. It's chocabloc with great pieces. In this thread I'll give a taster of some of them. If you've not yet subscribed or re-subscribed, it's not too late! 𧡠1/

Lots of fun putting these together and thinking about the potential for a better approach to secondary English
Every one of these seats was occupied - with over 850 students and their teachers in attendance. Thanks to everyone for making it a wonderful day, particularly the teachers for taking the time to organise everything!
