It was actually caused by a layer of clouds that had formed during totality. So once light started reflecting back, the cloud at the edge scattered it into this cool blown out pattern.
And then I overexposed deliberately to maximise the effect.

As a sliver of light returned, a strange feeling overcame me... an oddness, surpassing even that of the Totality.
And try as I might, the camera simply would not focus upon the moon!

Airglow Eclipse
In the hour of totality, there was still a lot of light.
Curious, I pointed the second camera to the south - and discovered quite a vibrant airglow in effect.
