All was quiet in Dawn's Respite. Eerily so. The Scions were laid in the beds spread across the room as if they were sleeping, but such was not the case. Their bodies were here, but their souls were missing. Jaeger's was the only soul in the room as he kneeled beside Alisaie's side, deep in thought. He cradled her limp hand gently in his own; hands that nearly dwarfed hers entirely. Where did she go? Where did they all go? He worried for them all of course, but Alisaie's summoning had hit him the hardest. They were supposed to stay together. She'd made him promise not to leave, and yet she was the one who ended up collapsing on the battlefield. "So please... Don't you dare leave me alone." Her words echoed in his mind again, wrapping around his heart and squeezing until he thought it would burst. The realization had hit him like a rampaging auroch. How could he have not seen it before? They had become thick as thieves since reuniting after the Dragonsong War, that much was plain for all to see. He considered her his best friend. But when had it turned to love? For how long? Weeks? Months? The lingering glances, the desire to be in her presence, to touch her, to make her happy... Those weren't the desires of a platonic relationship...right? Oh gods. What the hells does one do when they fall in love with their best friend? He grimaced. Nothing. He would do nothing. Love was not something he deserved. And it was impressed upon him long ago that he was impossible to love. No, he would not ruin their friendship for his own selfish desires. He would continue as he always had, even if it hurt.

He forced his mind to move on. Thoughts of their last moments together on the battlefield. How they'd reached for each other, their bodies wracked with pain. His stomach twisted. Could he have prevented her from being summoned away had he only grasped her hand? Surely not. But the thought lingered regardless. A low rumble vibrated in Jaeger's throat. He thought of the mysterious voice that took his friends from him. The robed man from his last contact. It was his fault. When he got his hands on him....

"Jaaaaeeegerrrr! Are you in here?" Tataru's voice rang out in the silent room just as she rounded the curtains, causing Jaeger to jump. He released Alisaie's hand as if it were a viper that had struck him, hoping Tataru hadn't seen. That was the last thing he needed. "T-Tataru!" he stuttered, his voice pitching upward in surprise. The Lalafellin woman looked at him in confusion, then understanding, and then...pity. Gods, he hated that look. He cleared his throat as he stood. "Tataru," he started again. "Is it time?" Tataru beamed at him, bouncing excitedly on her toes. "Yes! I'm all ready to go now. The boat is already waiting for us." She glanced around the room at their friends one last time before beckoning to him. "Let's go find that beacon!"

Super shrimples: Saran being nervous of the Ruby Sea since she hasn't had to learn to swim before... Alisaie teaching her, them both getting the Kojin Blessing, and teasing Alphinaud together! Some still need to worry about drowning, girls...
