From 'I Explain Some Things' by Pablo Neruda, about the Spanish Civil War. Translated by Mark Eisner
Come and see the blood in the streets,
come and see
the blood in the streets,
come and see the blood
in the streets!
You will ask why his poetry
doesnβt speak to us of dreams, of the leaves,
of the great volcanoes of his native land?
yet from every dead child rises a rifle with eyes,
yet from every crime bullets are born
that one day will find the target
of your heart.
Traitor
generals:
behold my dead house,
behold Spain destroyed:
yet instead of flowers, from every dead house
burning metal flows,
yet from every hollow of Spain
Spain flows,
Jackals the jackal would reject,
stones the dry thistle would bite then spit out,
vipers the vipers would despise!
Facing you I have seen the blood
of Spain rise up
to drown you in one single wave
of pride and knives!
Bandits with airplanes and with Moors
bandits with finger-rings and duchesses,
bandits with black friars making blessings,
kept coming from the sky to kill children,
and through the streets the blood of the children
ran simply, like childrenβs blood.
And one morning everything was burning
and one morning the fires
were shooting out of the earth
devouring beings,
and ever since then fire,
gunpowder ever since,
and ever since then blood.
Every time it rains in San Francisco, let that increase your empathy for the unhoused.
There are only three canonical Mans: Super, Spider, and Bat. Of course there are many other powerful players in the Mans field; Mega, Iron, Ultra, Boogie, Youda, Sand, Ant, etc, who deserve their place in the Pantheon (mantheon?) of Mans, the Big Three will always stand apart.
Never cross a picket line.

They have all gone to that eternal uncontained lithium battery fire in the sky. π
Emailed!
I was invited to speak at the opening, but I havenβt really spent a lot of time with the photographs yet. Planning to go next week. SFMTA is really lucky to have a staff photographer who is so dedicated to documenting preserving and maintaining our history.

@rollovereasy.org Goooooooooood Morning from the 44 OβShaughnessy! Tell the people: tonight at City Hall SFMTA is opening a photo exhibition of Historic San Francisco Muni photography.
Here is the thread where I detail this adventure: bsky.app/profile/that...
Last summer I visited Paris and walked the entire length of the Original Transit Route. Afterwards I visited the church where Pascal died and is interred, to place a .05Β’ piece on his resting place.
as the night lows drop to almost freezing across the bay where most people let alone the unhoused are prepared for it im thinking of this once again.
i hope for a day where the empathy can be towards keeping everyone housed forever because we have ended homelessness through compassion
A former mud trail in Dogpatch is now an βunofficialβ city park.
Love this fun little civic victory brought to our attention by my longtime @sfchronicle.com colleague Sam Whiting.

βthe makers of AI arenβt damned by their failures, theyβre damned by their goals. They want to build a genie to grant them wishes, and their wish is that nobody ever has to make art again. They want to create a new kind of mind, so they can force it into mindless servitude.β
βBut I am a hater, and I will not be polite. The machine is disgusting and we should break it. The people who build it are vapid shit-eating cannibals glorifying ignorance. I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itselfβ
