This thread is unfortuantely aging like fine wine, or perhaps fine spirits that someone's set on fire and thrown at an oil tanker.

Every day that goes by any sense that the US can just TACO and turn the crisis off gets weaker.

I think it's mostly people telling on themselves for betting their retirement accounts that can't buy futures but can buy options.

Embarrassing to have a nominally Democratic senator who’s every other public statement is about a new group of people he wants to kill. Progs should’ve taken those stories about him trying to kill a guy with a shotgun more seriously

Is there really potential there? Seems like pensions have little or no reason to fire sale other assets if these go bad, and I don't get a sense there's significant exposure for banks. I also know nothing though.

Rory Johnston on How Oil Could Surge to Over $200 a Barrel

πŸŽ™οΈ I was thrilled to rejoin @weisenthal.bsky.social & @tracyalloway.bsky.social on the Odd Lots podcast to discuss the historic and ongoing disruption of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, through which ~20% of the world's oil flows

This is it. This is the big one

my honest reaction to that information:

Something like 16% of all NJ households had >$250k income in 2024, I think it's a common number for virtually any dual white collar families. A cop married to a teacher in my town is likely pulling in that much!

So foreseeable that my amazing former colleague @proftalmadge.bsky.social published this analysis, β€œClosing Time: Assessing the Iranian Threat to the Strait of Hormuz,” in 2008 in @intsecurity.bsky.social.

Especially with a bridge or parts of the road closed from flooding!

I have some pretty fond memories of commuting that way, always something happening, great wildlife, and very pretty.

this is *particularly* fucking stupid when republicans are all saying that gas prices rising isn’t a big deal and it’ll all be over any day now. unbelievably bad political instincts from kelly and blumenthal here.

Side note: Media outlets that refused to cave to Pentagon press rules have been coming up with scoop after scoop from military sources. So much for Hegseth’s attempt to strangle journalism

leaders like trump are why sun tzu had to write a bunch of advice like "don't write your enemy a letter detailing what tactics you really don't want them to do"

The Egyptian exhibits have the flavor too, just less over the top.

Even as a cynical scholar of rape culture, I'm shocked that this isn't the headline story on domestic politics everywhere right now. It's just an unfathomable abuse of power, in clear violation of the law.

10.03.2026 19:27 πŸ‘ 2615 πŸ” 1047 πŸ’¬ 21 πŸ“Œ 16

Directionally true, perhaps, and not a knock on the OP, but I don’t think this is a new problem. Rather, this is AI accelerating existing problem patterns like scope creep, lack of clarity on what the product is, and what business need you’re trying to meet.

Was just there Sunday, what a unique place. In many ways does a better job than museums with larger collections and more money.

The Rosicrucians are pretty interesting aside from it as well.

It's so bad that we've reached a point where members of Congress casually discuss stripping citizenship from and deporting people because they don't like their views.

If the Dems who win in the 2026 midterms get squeamish about prosecuting this administration, we'll need to elect a bunch of new people running on Nuremberg shit for 2028. This isn't a joke. It's the law. It's justice. Biden let Trump back in the WH and this happened because Joe didn't do his job

This was such a good job by the NYT's Shawn McCreesh.

He asked a very pointed and direct question to Trump about the school bombing, leading the president to corner himself (was he claiming the US sold Iran Tomahawks???) before admitting he doesn't "know enough" and will abide by the final report.

If an official commits an impeachable offense and nobody acts to impeach, it is no longer an impeachable offense.

People who oppose impeachment as β€œpointless” because it seems unlikely to result in removal do not understand this very simple point and seem unwilling to even try to understand it.

Every second of free time you have ever had in your life was subsidized by the existence of the combine harvester.

enormously hot take: the reason a bunch of midwit software dev people are in their feels about agentic tooling is that it proves that good requirements specification and technical project management were the hard problem it's important for a human to be able to solve all along, not Codingβ„’

the pattern we saw today was also how it went during Covid and the Liberation Day crashes. The market crashes, Trump says exactly what the market wants to hear and the market rallies back, it's then revealed that what Trump was saying is bullshit, but the market stays up instead of crashing

I understand that there are a lot of folks on the left who instinctively recoil from religious language, and with good reason given its use by the right.

But please listen to this, and focus on how he's trying to realign "Christian values" so they align with and advance progressive policy goals.

Hard agree with this analysis. I think a main contradiction of the Silicon Valley/tech right is a vision of decentralization and extra-territoriality that is in fact backed up by US might and force. The Network State is actually the US 'empire'.
