Our current car was written off at the weekend (young lad crashed into it while parked outside of our house!)

Initially been looking at PCP deals on a new EV, but probably should look at 2nd hand too.

Thinking tech will improve so don’t want to commit to buying a new car outright!

How have you got on with the 2nd hand EV?

Is the battery performing well?

We’re the other way round, have the solar panels & battery and now looking at EV’s!

Reaching net zero by 2050 β€˜cheaper for UK than one fossil fuel crisis’ Climate change committee finds move to renewable energy would also bring health, economic and security benefits

β€œAchieving the UK’s net zero target by 2050 will cost less than a single oil shock and bring health and economic benefits while insulating the country against future costs, the government’s climate advisers have forecast”

Unsurprising, but worrying, that the TV host leading the β€˜department of war’ doesn’t have a coherent plan.

Sure, I could believe that, though it’s a complex situation.

What is verified is Ukraine are regaining territory, with Starlink cutting Russian access a significant factor

Oh ok; with you.

I thought you meant it’s crazy people are completely gutting the houses in the first place.

This is why I think there’s too much negative messaging. Lots of people are spending lots on renovations, but not installing heat pumps.

They’re still seen as a risk at the moment

However if/when changing your kitchen, it’s a good time to also do the heat pump.

It’s not.

It’s very common

I live in London though, so lots of houses having a complete internal gut and rebuild, but too often without a heat pump.

Depending on the spec of the system the costs for the system itself are that much higher than for a (decent) new gas boiler.

The retro fitting can obviously increase the costs. But if done alongside other work the incremental cost isn’t significant.

I think new builds can’t instal gas boilers already, and the requirement for solar panels starts next year.

So there’s not a lot to move forward.

How heat pumps left some homes so cold owners took them out The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers grants of up to Β£6,000 if homeowners rip out their gas boiler and install an air or ground source heat pump.

Headlines like this.

I’m sure there are some rogue installs, but they’re in the minority…..

We won’t unlock new gas reserves by this winter.

US/Qatar supplies account for 8% of U.K. supply.

We need faster conversion to heat pumps to reduce demand.

While financial incentives are there, the nonsensical negative narratives around heat pumps need to be challenged more strongly

Just fascinating to see Blair, a man whose reputation was ruined by the Iraq war, advocate joining a war that is exponentially stupider and more chaotic. How is it possible to learn nothing from the worst mistake of your life?
