I have a lot of sympathy for the homeless. Iβve also worked food service and have seen some things. Things that were traumatizing and dangerous. Restaurant staff are not social workers or saints who volunteered to rehabilitate people who need professional help and resources.
I was in the Madison central public library a few years back and a homeless man go up off the lounge chair he was sleeping in, kinda stumbled toward the doors, and then projectile vomited a huge stream of vomit.
The library workers did not seem phased by the event.
The population is already basically in assisted living. It's just the most dysfunctional possible assembly of assistance through shelters, street angels, soup kitchens, public support, loitering in libraries & on buses, in & out of jails, psych wards.
I'd vote for any dem that proposes a massive build out of assisted living apartments and an enormous scaling up of guardian/conservatorships for all the folks we see each day that are clearly unwell.
