Time to try to put my thoughts into an essay! Here I'm discussing the symbolism of mechs and gender dynamics in Gundam 0083, both the anime and the manga. Enjoy!

I'd argue that it's Gyunei who has daddy issues and Char is simply unable to be a father figure. Char's entire personality is based on the resentment towards father figures (≠ his father), but since he operates within the oedipal triangle, there's no way out other than to reproduce another triangle.
