Dutch text from the Jane Austen Centre in Bath: Jane bracht een aantal jaren door met het leven en schrijven in Bath. In feite zijn er twee van haar romans in de stad - 'Northanger Abbey' en 'Persuasion'. In 1801 begon Jane Austen aan haar eerste uitgebreide verblijf in Bath, een stad die bekend staat om zijn helende wateren, modieuze samenleving en bloeiende sociale scene. De grandeur van de Georgische architectuur van Bath met zijn iconische Royal Crescent En de statige Pulteney Bridge over de rivier Avon, veroverde onmiddellijk de verbeelding van Austen. De tijd van Jane Austen in bad vormde niet alleen haar literaire werken, maar bood haar ook een dieper begrip van de menselijke natuur en maatschappelijke normen. Haar observaties van de rigide klassenstructuur en de impact van maatschappelijke verwachtingen werden integrale thema's in haar romans, die resoneerden met lezers over generaties.
