I think the Unplugged performance is such a touchstone for my generation that you could find a lot of people who agree with this.
Bright colors of any kind depress me, in fact, and my moods are more or less inversely related to the clarity of the sky on any given day. Matter of fact, my private motto has always been that behind every silver lining thereβs a cloud.

I always feel like a real dork if I have to hide out in a hallway or bathroom bc I live in a city apartment. But a few years ago a tornado did come through the neighborhood! I don't think it took out any apartment buildings though. In a rural house with a basement I'm fine with seeking shelter.
I'm in SE Evanston. We did not get the earlier round of hail, but we've had it for the last idk 20 minutes.
Ok, that's a lot of hail.
Also, Dorothy has climbed up on top of me like one of those goats in trees.
(From southern IL) Unless we were directly in the path of a funnel cloud, life just went on as normal. I've been in a car that's pulled over for a funnel cloud, and I've slept through a tornado that uprooted trees on my street.
Update: Thunder, lightning, hail, and a proper deluge now.
Yeah - my dog is going to have to wait to go out.
Mating season is upon us, so that might explain the goose violence.
No hail or tornadoes here. Just drizzle & fog.
Ok I've got it figured out:
Juliana Stratton for Senate
Dan Biss for Congress
Mike Simmons for Mayor of Chicago
Kat for 42nd or 2nd Ward Alder
Laura Fine for Mayor of Evanston idc...
Bushra Amiwala for Lieutenant Governor
Wow, this is just the kind of thing I might be interested in! Unfortunately, I have been completely unable to navigate the website because of a deluge of pop up ads including a prompt to subscribe that covers most of the screen and cannot be closed. Oh well!
It's in the 30s w/wind-chill in the 20s near the lake (SE Evanston.)
Anyway, here are the same ICE agents some may recognize from immigration court arrests (tall skinny unidentified guy plus his boss/team lead #7880, name still unknown) grabbing someone in the West Loop this morning.
I remember the Berlin Wall falling and the end of the Soviet Union and thinking the arc of history bent toward justice. I'm sure my grandparents felt the same after WWII. For me that ended with Bush v. Gore. The election of Obama felt more like momentary relief than actual optimism.
yep...
Omg you took your dog to Superdawg for her birthday?
Dorothy got the last cup of last year's doggy ice cream after a too long in retrospect walk in this too warm weather and returning to a too warm apartment.
The sky has turned a hazy lilac color, and I did not see but heard the sandhill cranes.
We're hearing unconfirmable rapid response reports from this morning as well with a myriad of vehicles, including ones tied to Broadview Detention Center. We're also aware of the Airbus H125 'control' helicopter that has flown up the coastline.
Confirming the Daily's report: A source tells me rapid response teams are "on the lookout for two known ICE vehicles taking an extensive drive going east on Oakton from Park Ridge."
FML, ICE was in the neighborhood today!
Went to the beach and people were swimming. Not a great fan of summer weather in March, tbh... π₯΅
Lake Michigan
Lake forever, problems for now.
I'm trying to be normal about the CPD chopper circling Evanston that is probably just going for a joyride on a gorgeous day and the guy in fatigues outside who is probably just reporting for duty in the Middle East. Traumatized for life, I am.
At least it's not as idiotic as "Northalsted."
But yeah, whatever its history, the way it is used as a race and class coded signifier by developers, gentrifiers, and Cappleman types gives me the creeps.
If I had a nickel for every time Franz Ferdinand was involved in the precursor events of a world war, Iβd have two nickels, which isnβt a lot, but itβs weird it happened twice
I grew up in the 70s so I can handle a lil gas crisis. Just turn the lights off when you leave a room, carpool to work and school, and send your small children out on foot to fetch groceries.
I think this is about the temperature but honestly it works for decades as well
