βThe Vice President, Secretary of Defense, and several Cabinet members and high ranking White House officials were conducting war strategy in a group chat on an iphone appβ is such a perfect scandal for Democrats to go scorched earth on. I canβt wait to see how they fuck it up.

I think this is the disconnect.
Schumer still focused on POLITICAL STRATEGY.
Democratic grassroots focused on the SUBSTANTIVE HARM being done to the United States.

Okay, not that this matters AT ALL since the base idea here is fucking insanely rude, stupid, and ridiculous... but the idea that THE WHOLE COUNTRY OF CANADA WOULD BE A SINGLE STATE IS INCOMPREHENSIBLE. His complete lack of awareness of the structure of one of our closest allies is mind-boggling.

How could that Trump voter have believed electing him would make IVF free? She must've been into fringey alternative media, maybe saw it from some influencer, professional media outlets would never oh no.

Every scientist, long before they were a scientist, was a little kid who stood in front of a fish tank or stared up at the stars or turned over a rock to look at the bugs underneath and said βwowβ. On the best days, working in science still feels like that.

Decision to dump water from Tulare County lakes altered after sending locals into a mad scramble β SJV Water
Water managers were relieved Thursday evening after the Army Corps of Engineers agreed to back off of a sudden decision earlier in the day to dump massive
Remember how Trump said he "sent the military in and opened up the water flow" in CA? It appears he forced the Army Corps to just drain reservoirs into recently flooded farmland without telling local farmers or leaders. βIn 25 years, Iβve never seen anything like this.β

Let me give you a perfect example of why I think Muskβs approach is so dangerous. As everybody knows, there was a plane crash in D.C. on Wednesday. A helicopter collided with a passenger plane and almost 70 people died. When this collision occurred, the Federal Aviation Administration was leaderless. Why? Musk had Trump fire the former FAA leader as soon as he got into office, because the former leader had investigated and fined one of Muskβs companies, Starlink. This was a sheer vengeance firing. This was not about competence or even truly about political affiliation. Elon Musk was just mad at this guy for investigating his company and wanted him gone on Day 1.
Because of that, the FAA was leaderless during the biggest aviation disaster in this country since 2001. The agency had to scramble to figure out how it was going to respond to this without anyone at the top. And by the way, the day after the crash, FAA employeesβincluding air traffic controllers, who are already badly short-staffedβgot an email encouraging them to resign and find work in the private sector.
Elon Musk thinks he can gut the U.S. government like he gutted Twitter without facing any real consequences. He is dangerously wrong. His ransacking of the federal workforce is going to get people killed. slate.com/news-and-pol...

EXCLUSIVE: NSF starts vetting all grants to comply with Trumpβs orders
Grantee accounts remain frozen, while union accuses NSF of ignoring rules governing peer review
This is not business as usual.
Itβs not just a change in funding priorities going forward; it is the reneging on funding agreements and is profoundly disruptive for even those grants that will be found to be compliant.
Meanwhile, trainees who often live paycheck to paycheck are going unpaid.

It feels that folks operate with 2 vastly different sets of rules. One side is process oriented & manifestly nonpartisan (if blind to its own political biases). The other side is partisan & willing to use any means necessary.
Both sides fantasize that the other side plays their way.

It takes the Acela 6.75 hours to travel from Boston to DC, and in Japan this would take less than 3. This is arguably the most important economic center of the world, with trains as slow as 80 years ago. Thereβs no βgolden age of Americaβ with rail this slow.
