The AMS 37th Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology is coming up in three weeks. It will be my 12th time at this biennial conference (starting in 2004), and 3rd time attending it in San Diego.

One of my favorite conference centers. Great coffee bar. And such fun seeing "Stop Chemtrails" picket signs. I never see them anywhere else.

How fascinating. Because they started this s*** in August. And suddenly, within a week, they deactivate it.

Quite the sign of how experts don't actually use Grammarly and thus hadn't noticed until last week? And how stressed Grammarly is about potential law suits now that we do realise.

Grammarly is like the hair spray element of healthcare. Not concerned if they're being used on actual hair.

I find it so revealing how they use the example of a professor sharpening an essay - that the crucial difference between 'Person X has actually read your work, thought about it, and responded' and 'Person X has not been involved AT ALL in this process' is just not significant to them.

These influential writers apparently don't use academia.edu which gives me a decent perspective of what's happening in a group that focuses on one particular subject.

I used to be good at calibrating monitors back in the day. I had to do it for 4 color printing and video editing which requires you to shift the gamma.
There is more to good performance. My wife has acuity off the charts for interpreting edges of letters or images.

It’s funny, because right before I stumbled across this I utilized some eagle eye ability when someone asked me what I thought about this paper on ginger as a treatment for toxoplasmosis. Skeptical to start, I immediately noticed something fishy about their first image. Details in the alt text

Not a lot different from when a conglomerate buys a company because it is profitable and they think they can make it more profitable by firing half the staff.

All spatial information (digital or otherwise) are priceless during war - "geography applied in the worst possible ways." Today, maps and imagery are the canvas telling the story of the horror of war; geography is the language of geopolitics. We come to know where places are and why they matter.
