I've not read a ton about what the American analyst scene was doing at any point in history. Malcolm is a great writer and she definitely doesn't completely let psychoanalysis off the hook for its many sins, but probably doesn't go hard enough either. Fun book.

On a practical level with the DOT, it could potentially cause chaos. Already awarded contracts to DBEs that havenβt begun to be worked on could potentially be ripped up and set for rebid. Thatβs hundreds of millions of dollars of work.
But the logic behind this is a continued trend of the government saying that discrimination is not real, they want to set reality to a white cishet male standard.
Like a white male owner will make his wife the majority owner , and she has no clue about construction or running a business, but is a figurehead for the sake of getting more contracts.
Thereβs a lot of BS in the program , whenever thereβs an economic incentive businesses will find a way to get them at the cheapest cost with as little structural change as possible. For example there are many business that are DBEs that really just have a woman or BIPOC as an owner but with no sayβ¦
The USDOT is ending its Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program, so Woman owned Business Enterprises and Minority owned Business Enterprises (as theyβre formally called) no longer get preference in receiving DOT contracts
