With over 500 species of sharks these animals play an important role in keeping our ocean ecosystems healthy. Sharks are especially vulnerable to overfishing because of their long lives, few offspring, and are often misunderstood due to their fearsome reputations.

Tracking the movements of threatened species helps natural resource managers make informed conservation decisions. It also helps protect species that aren’t yet at risk so we can keep them that way.

Within the FACT Network, researchers have tagged 140 different species and 43% of them are at risk of extinction. ⬇️
