Claude Shannon - Wikipedia

I was today-years-old when I realised that Anthropic's Claude was likely named after Claude Shannon. D'oh! (Can't find an official confirmation though.)

Not all that surprising, sadly.

They don’t need a tool to assess where to drop a bomb when they have one that confidently confirms any location they choose. They don’t need autonomous drones to drop those bombs, they just need to give an order. So the human is just a conduit for the machine, which is just a conduit for the human.

They don't *need* AI to make these decisions. But they *want* AI to make these decisions. Because the tech gives them plausible deniability--something to blame (other than themselves) when things go wrong.

Collapse: A Framework for Understanding and Navigating the Decline of Industrial Civilisation Global industrial civilisation is collapsing and there is nothing we can do to prevent it.

'This is not a call to despair, but an invitation to understand the forces driving the process of collapse, and to explore how we might navigate the descent with integrity, purpose, and care for the living world.'

Netflix Backs Out of Bid for Warner Bros., Paving Way for an Ellison Takeover

The richest man owns X.

The second and third richest men control Google.

The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.

And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.

See the problem here?

Designating Anthropic as a supply chain risk would:
1) bar the company from government contracts
2) bar any government contractor from using Claude
3) pressure other businesses to consider Claude insecure

Meanwhile, invoking the DPA would nationalize Claude, but now as a surveillance/murder tool

24.02.2026 19:13 πŸ‘ 29 πŸ” 7 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 6

Invoking the Defense Production Act to force Anthropic to make a version of Claude that can conduct mass domestic surveillance and operate murderbots is psychotic

People Loved the Dot-Com Boom. The A.I. Boom, Not So Much.

stories like this will mention the AI "doomer narrative" (SkyNet will kill us all, often pushed by industry insiders), but not mention it pre-empts more realistic criticism (Grok's data center in Memphis is aiming its pollution directly at black people) the industry doesn't want to talk about

Laser writing in glass for dense, fast and efficient archival data storage - Nature An optical archival storage technology based on femtosecond laser direct writing in glass addresses the practical demands of archival storage.

Project Silica is cool but asks a *lot* of those who read/decipher the archive: optical microscopy, a custom neural net, etc. If that knowledge gets lost - not at all a crazy thought for a 10,000-year archive! - you're hosed www.nature.com/articles/s41... (via @inevernu.bsky.social's Sentiers)

You may be tempted to roll your eyes and say that this was obvious, but there is a substantive difference between pointing out there is a slippery slope and having solid evidence that Ring's CEO is planning to expand Search Party beyond lost pets. Kudos to 404 Media.
